They are already down a key contributor with Anderson Varejao unsigned, and recent pickup Cedric Simmons now might be unavailable for a while, too.

Simmons, who suffered a left high-ankle sprain in July, reinjured the ankle during the preseason loss Tuesday to the Washington Wizards. He was scheduled to have an MRI exam late Wednesday to determine if there is any more damage. His status for the games with the Detroit Pistons and Seattle SuperSonics this week, and beyond, is up in the air. -- Akron Beacon-Journal

[*]"I haven't been 100 percent," Simmons said. "I felt close to it going into [Tuesday's game] but once I hurt it [again] it kind of set me back." -- Cleveland Plain Dealer

Oct 12 - An MRI exam performed Wednesday on forward Cedric Simmons' left ankle revealed a bone bruise. The team isn't saying how long that will sideline Simmons, who figured to get a chunk of minutes with Anderson Varejao unsigned. He probably will not play tonight against the Seattle SuperSonics or the two exhibition games in China against the Orlando Magic next week.

The Cavs will be conservative with the injury because Simmons has been dogged by problems with his left ankle for a year. -- Akron Beacon-Journal
