Gotta admit that I haven't heard of half the albums mentioned in here. It's all good though, because it gives me a list of stuff to d/l soon. As for my pick for greatest album, it'd be either Paid in Full or It Takes a Nation of Million to Hold Us Back.

Paid in Full is another of my favs.
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

Also my sleeper choice:

And remember, musical taste is about preference, respect others' opinions.
I may not like a lot of that stuff, or think it's good, but it might float your boat and tickle your Tuesday, so if you respect my taste, I will respect yours.

That being said I'm not the biggest fan of him, but I consider him hip hop, sure.
Also back then talking about 'slanging rocks, bustin caps, and pimpin hoe's' was actually how life was. Whereas by today's standards its pretty superficial, mainly because its baseless. Positivity isn't necessarily hip hop (although I enjoy listening to it), but being genuine is. Plus the production was out of this world.

Me Against The World is probably my favorite, I know JBB at least had a hatred towards Tupac but for me it doesn't get any better.

You want to talk about Hip-Hop back then, then look towards Grandmaster Flash, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy,GangStarr, Eric B & Rakim etc. etc.Eazy-E's nameshouldNEVERbementioned in a "greatest" topic. Dont get me wrong, I like Eazy, and NWA was the shit, but1.thedudedidntwritehisownlyricsand2.hewasacrappyrapperanyway.Hisstylewassoplainandbasic,heofferednothingasanMCotherthansomefunnypunchlineshereandthere.Dudewasinspirational,alotofWestCoastcatslookeduptohim,butapartfromthat,heisworthyofnothing.Dude, please, life wasnt about slanging rocks, bustin caps and pimpin hoes back then anymore than it is now. Ok, Nas was talking about what hes seen, what hes gone through, but by track 3, its alreadybecomea stale and boring subject. There were more guys back then speaking on real ish' than there is now even. I'm not saying Hip-Hop has to all be about making the world a better place or whatever, but what it is about, is trying new things, speaking on variousdifferent subjects. Fact is, Nas didnt do that on Illmatic.

So then Wu-Tang isn't hip hop?
On another note: I'm listening to 'Get Back' right now...and half way through it I'm extremely disappointed.

I would call Wu-Tang Hip-Hop, because they embrace the Hip-Hop culture for what it was.I'mstillnotreallysurewhattheyeverspokeabout(doesanyone?)buttheywerecreativetosaytheleast.Mostoftheirstuffwasdoneonangeldust,andotherdrugstoo.

QUOTE (NTC)

I'mstillnotreallysurewhattheyeverspokeabout(doesanyone?)

..yeah dude. Slinging rock, pimping hoes, and busting caps
So I finished listening to Little Brother's Get Back....its horrible. I heard Seperate but Equal and thought they could get by without 9th in the group, but this latest album shatters that hope. No track stands out to me. The subject is weak, and the production is mediocre. It doesn't sound like any of their previous albums except that this entire album sounds like an extended "diary of an angry black daddy" and "5th and fashion" skit on loop.
Thank god that I also downloaded "Get loose" by the Unspoken Heard (Asheru and Blue Black) now this is what I'm talking about. When was the last time you heard a hip hop song fade out with a 2 minute jazz solo? This album is beautiful.

Slinging rock, pimping hoes, and busting caps

Not really. More so about violence if anything. Wu-Tang to me was more a display of lyrical talent, ability than subject matter. I'm reading over some of their lyrics now, you really see that thats what they were about. They never really spoke on anything in particular (at least not on 36 chambers).
Anyway,IneversaidHip-Hopcanthave those subjects in it, I'm talking about those who only ever rap about that stuff (i.e 50 Cent)

Well sure, and I'm with you on that. After a while its like "hey man we heard that already! give us something new!" its diluted, really. But where I make a distinction is that his becomes unacceptable when its built over a career. I can handle an album of this stuff, hell I can handle every album wu-tang put out, because they speak about in an orginal manner, and it keeps it fresh. Unlike "I get money," which is a total crock.
I would also recommend you check out the other albums that they've put out; there's a really wide spectrum that you're missing. Never heard of a wu-tang song about selling drugs? Listen to raekwon (mainly Glaciers of Ice, its an amazing song). Ghostface is more boisterous, more ostentatious, but thats ok, because he brings his own originality to the table. There's more to life in the ghetto than just violence and anger.

This are one of my two favorite songs from Wu-Tang Clan
Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.

I'd say im close to hearing just about every single bit of materialfromtheWu-Tanglibrary,haha.Shyheim,G.PWu,Gravediggaz,L.AtheDarkman,TheodoreUnit,SunzofMan,Killarmy,KillahPriest,Cappadonna,ShabazzthaDisciple,Streetlife,Tekitha,BlueRaspberry,DreddyKruegeretc.IgotmyWuonlock,dontyouworryaboutthat, haha. Also what you talking about on the new LB joint? That shit is H-O-T!! Definatley not on the level of 'The Listening', but a very solid release. I thought as a Justus League fan you would've been feeling the Illmind, Khrysis production, I thought they did a great job on the tracks they laid down. 9th's track was good too (featuring Lil' Wayne too, lol), really feeling Hi-Tek's also.Agreedthatthesubjectmatterwasalittlebit"heardthisbefore",buttheytriedsomenewthingsheretoo.Favouritetrackswouldbe"StepItUp","Dreams","ThatAintLove","TwoStepBlues","AfterTheParty".Veryhappywiththefinalproduct.

QUOTE (CelticBlood)

This was an incredible album by 50 Cent. And I'm really excited about Eminem's new album thats going to come out.

ROFL
Curtis was absolute garbage, almost as bad as Massacre. You have got to be kidding me if you think this is the greatest hip hop album of all-time.
I take that as an insult.

To me the greatest hip hop albums of all-time:
Nas - Illmatic
2Pac - Me Against the World
Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full
Wu-tang - 26 Chambers
Big L - Lifestylez of the Poor & Dangerouz

Also this album from Panacea - Ink is My Drink is a new favorite.
