I was having trouble deciding which team to pick as my favorite since I live in New Mexico and we don't even have a NFL team. When 9/11 happened I decided to go with the Patriots because of their American, "Patriotic" theme. So as far as their theme goes, they are the most USA related team. As far as everything else is concerned regarding which team people like the most, they obviously aren't. Just like the Cowboys aren't America's team because a lot of people hate them too.

Ahead of the Cowboys and Patriots. "Americas Team" is self proclaimed. It would not surprise me to see the Cowboys as one of the most hated teams in the NFL as well. Same with New England. Only team who really isn't "hated" by fan are the New Orleans Saints and that's only because of Katrina.

Something bad happens and people jump on board. 9/11 with the Pats and Katrina with the Saints. I'm not saying they will be that way forever because they won't, but people do jump on the bandwagon for a little while at least. After 9/11 I saw t-shirts and signs that people had that said "9/11: Go Patriots!!!" and stuff liek that on them. A lot has changed since then because now I hear things like, "If the Pats win it again I'm going to hang myself." and so on and so forth. Now the media is slaughtering Belichick over his postgame communication with Manning. I'm not saying I liked what he did to Manning by snubbing him and not even talking to him but what happened there? Has Manning pulled a "Tom Jackson" with Belichick before or something?
I'm not sure what you mean about Peyton pulling a "Tom Jackson" with Belichick, but Belichick has never needed a reason to be hateful. It's a shame that as successful as Belichick has been that he chooses to be a sourpuss. What's funny now is, since the Patsies lost the AFC Championship Game, the Patriots coaching staff will be coaching the AFC in the Pro Bowl. Old Sourpuss will get to see Peyton and LT sooner than he might like.

People wanted New England to beat the Rams because they were the ultimate underdog at the time.
Last time I checked, 9/11 was considered a national tragedy. People from California, New Mexico, Utah, etc. were killed on that day. Not just citizens of New York. If either New York team had made it to the Super Bowl that year, they would have been the bandwagon team. Nobody would have jumped on the Saints bandwagon as much as they did if the Saints would have been bad this year. The Patriots happened to be very good that year and they wore red, white, and blue so a lot of people mentioned the Pats and 9/11.

How coaches or players react after or during a game is so not important unless you're an Oprah-loving-whiny-have-nothing-better-to-do-but-analyze-facial expressions-getalifer! What's important is results & his track record is 2nd to none.
I'm going to have to politely disagree. The only person I remember mentioning it was Paul McCartney when they let him into the booth at the Super Bowl. (McCartney is my favorite Beatle, but he should keep his mouth shut when it comes to football.) I just don't remember anyone making a that big of a deal about the Patriots because they happen to wear the nation's colors. I think I was rooting for the Pats because of Mike Martz. What I remember is all of the NFL teams coming out of the tunnel with one player, in front, carrying an American flag and also the field size American flags used around the country. Now, I'm getting curious. Does anyone else remember a big deal being made of New England's Patriot theme that year?

Does the same rule apply to the Packers as New England. People didn't jump on the Patriots bandwagon because of 9/11. Look it Baseball. New York Yankees lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Most of the general public rooted for D-backs. Mainly because it's the Yankees and everyone likes the underdog. People didn't root for New England or start rooting for them because of 9/11. I think people rooted for sports and turned to sports as a 3 hour "getaway" from reality but New England did not become the "beloved" NFL team because of 9/11.
