Courtesy of Realgm:
QUOTE

Houston Chronicle - After two weeks of practices and two games, teammates, coaches, one general manager and in a way, Rafer Alston himself raved about his play. By Saturday, Rick Adelman had formed an impression of Alston, 6-2, he had resisted in the summer, calling him "a perfect fit." "I was just waiting to see," Adelman said. "I wanted to see these guys on the floor together and I told him that. He's been really good. He came in with a great attitude with all the stuff going around. He worked his tail off. I couldn't be more pleased. I knew he was a good player, but he's a much better player than I really realized."

Personally, this is great news. I've always liked Rafer, and wanted to see him continue to succeed in Houston. With Adelman in, this could be a big year for him.
LINK!

Wow, this is a big surprise. Houston brought in James and Francis to be the new PG but Alston turns out to be Adelman's player of choice.

I watched him in the preseason games, and this offense really seems to suit him. He is not forced to make those ugly teardrops, nor shoot bad jumpshots. He will still aim for the open 3's though. He also doesn't make many mistakes with the ball.

I just need to give over myself but every time I think of Rafer Alston, I think of Skip To My Lue and all that wannabe basketball crap he pulled on the And 1 mixtape tour. I need to put those days behind me and realize that he really is an asset to this team, no matter how his past has been. GArenas, I am surprised too that we brought in Francis and James and end up going with Alston. A lack of confidence pre-season maybe by the Houston higher-ups??

And I thought a trade involving Alston was to come, as well.

This is great for Alston, and it s awesome that we have a PG that fits into the new system so well. That being said, this does cause some problems with our other guards. Now if we had just Francis or James in the lineup, I don't think that is an issue. Either can thrive off the bench, but BOTH of them could be an issue.
I'd especially like to see francis compete for the starting position. I'm not saying that he SHOULD get it, especially if Rafer is proving himself very well. But this sort of competition is very healthy for him. It will teach him how to play the role that we need Stevie to play.
