In the hiring of Tomlin by the Steelers, I posed the question in this the end of the 3-4 in the Steel City?

It turns out, LeBeau has been retained as D Coord. After talking w/ a friend who is a Steelers fan, it dawned on me that...

    1) The Steelers may starting using the hybrid D. Props to Bill B for being the pioneer in what is the next big trend in the NFL. I know the Dolphins are continuuing w/ this scheme & believe the Jets are too.

    2) The front 7 in the cover 2 of which Tomlin has been known to use has an over/under along the DL. (Dungy was Tomlin's boss) Tony D got the idea for the DL alignment from Chuck Noll whom he played for in the 70's. Things have come full circle.

    Thoughts?

They have still retained LeBeau as D-coord? If so, then should we expect that the defense will make fundamental changes? At a glance, I would say, "don't fix what is not broken", or "dance with the girl that brought you there." They already have a front 7 that can play 3-4 effectively. Leave it alone.

LeBeau is still DC. It was always my impression that the 3-4 uses a cover 2 shell.

That was what I was just thinking also. Their defense is still one of the best. I doubt they would wanna change it.
