He has played 35 minutes in two games and everyone seems down on him.

So what has Magloire done in his 35 minutes: 8 points and 12 rebounds, five of them offensive, 2 assists and only 3 personal fouls. Shooting poorly but it's early. He is still learning the system.

Anyone want to take those numbers? I sure as hell would.

Just did an informal plus/minus on the Charlotte game. Seems like the Nets were something like -22 when Magloire was in the game and +14 when he was out, and he only played 17 minutes. I know the substitution patterns don’t favor the bench guys, and I know plus/minus can be deceiving, but still....

im waiting to really comment on him until i see him thursday @ home vs the knicks. numbers can mean so many different things, plus we are playing w/o kidd and i think kidd is going to really improve magloires offensive game.

    Never believe the +/- stats,

when Collins is in the Game, he is always with Kidd, Carter, RJ, and Magloire with 2nd Unit.

    That's the blind spot

I still don't think this signing will pay off. Sure, it's (relatively) low risk, but the Nets have been burned by these "bargain veteran" deals (Marc Jackson, Rodney Rogers, Jeff McInnis), enough times for me not to get my hopes up.

Maybe he could be included in a trade. It'd be a nice thought, if you're right, and Magloire ends up sucking.

    Welcome to S2, marreis!

Great to see another Nets fan here, and good job with those stats. I noticed your question got answered by Dave:

QUOTE

Larry: I wasn't in Charlotte, but it's pretty clear that of all the new guys brought to the party, it's going to take Magloire the longest to fit in effectively. You have to give him some time. And yes, that means wait until they play a few dozen games.

The difference between Magloire and those guys, is that Magloire has shown signs of class on the highest level, and is a former All-Star, whohad limited time/roleson his previous teams, because they were in rebuild mode. Heck, his season in Milwaukee in 05/06 got him 9.2 points and 9.5 rebounds plus a block a game.

He had a disappointing season last year, but that was while representing a Blazers franchise, who would rather get a L and getting young talent in this years draft, where they got.. You know...

Óver his career, Magloire has a 9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1 blocked shots in only 25 minutes a game.

The Magloire signing is the signing that had me celebrate the most, since I became a Nets fan in the summer 2004.

Sean Williams, Josh Boone = New Hotness

Jamaal Magloire = Old and Busted

I think the reason everyone is worried is because we were all banking on the "Kidd (and Carter, I guess...) make everyone better" factor, but so far Jamaal Mags looks exactly like the corpse last seen in Portland, OR.

I agree that a month's worth of experience in the system could change all that. But there's also (worrisomely high) chance it won't, considering Mags' historical preference for ball-dominating post ups and unwillingness to even consider the concept of passing the ball to anyone, ever.

One thing Magloire can do is rebound, no one needs to be worried about that. He's actually a very good rebounder. Shot blocking, he's no genious there, but he's decent enough, andbetter than the Nets other big men outside of possible Sean Williams. I haven't seen how much weight he's plodding around right now, so who knows how effective he will be in that area.

Umm...is everyone forgetting? I've seen countless people, including a lot of Portland fans, say that Magloire starts off the season really shitty, but ends the season great. He's just that type of player. I'm not worry about him at all yet, we have enough bigs to throw out there until Magloire gets in top BBall shape.
