It was reported on radio 570AM (Los Angeles), by both Steve Hartman and Mychal Thompson, that Kobe has cleaned out his locker in LA, and is to be traded.
The reported trade is: Josh Howard, Jason Terry, and draft picks.
Filler players such as Mbenga and Ager would have to be used.

QUOTE (o.iatlhawksfan)

I never believe radio news reports!

Its hard to tell....I cannot recall, personally, anytime being misled. Radio was the first to report the Jalen Rose, Eddy Curry, Jamal Crawford, Luol Deng trades....but thats Chicago, so they might be more reliable than the radio in LA.
But it sounds like Kobe is definitely done in LA, since the cleaning out his locker is definitely confirmed.
What team, and for what though...thats still a little cloudy between the writers.

Fortunately, these guys aren't credible when it comes to breaking a story.
I like Josh Howard, but taking Jason Terry his contract doesn't make any sense. If the Lakers trade Kobe Bryant they are fully committed to rebuilding, so I'd expect an expiring contract in place of Terry. On his current deal Terry is signed until 2012 where he tops out at $11M per season.
Those draft picks are useless because they'll be late first round picks.

I'm going to say this probably isn't true. Just from listening to the radio and hearing KG stuff.

What KG stuff?
I don't believe it either. Howard and Terry can get you Kobe? In what planet? lol

Don't ever trust radio reports, wasn't radio claiming that Gilbert was being considered to be swapped with Kobe back in June.

QUOTE (cpawfan)

Come on, Buss can't want to face Kobe 4 times a season.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I saw it was Dallas. That makes no sense at all...he's pretty much helping a championship contender, in the west, same conference as you...get BETTER?
Hm. I don't believe this.

The Lakers are asking for Luol Deng. For the love of God, why won't Paxson pull the trigger on a deal. Luol Deng is a good player, but he's not a first option (Gordon is)...and is just super hyped up right now.
With Lakers buying into the hype (well a young rising allstar like Deng for Kobe at this point is good value I guess...so maybe not too much hype).
But when you can essentially do Luol Deng, PJ Brown, Viktar Khryapa, Thabo Sefolosha for Kobe, why would you pass on that? If Lakers want Deng, give them Deng. If the package is coming down to Deng and nothing (unless you consider Thabo something), and Gordon and something (Thomas/Noah), just ship Deng out of Chicago. Gordon is the better player anyhow.
You'd still be left with:
PG-Kirk Hinrich/Chris Duhon SG-Ben Gordon/Kobe Bryant SF-Kobe Bryant/Andres Nocioni PF-Tyrus Thomas/Joakim Noah C- Ben Wallace/Aaron Gray
Whats not to like about that team? Sure, Kobe has to play small forward, but thats a VERY talented team.
As for an update -Kobe and Agent met at Lakers practice facility. -Kobe said he didn't know if he played his last game as a Laker to the media today. -Lakers want Deng, because they're sure he will be a star. -Radio guys admit they're confused at what the hell is happening. -Bucher said Kobe just reorganized his locker (WTF is that?....taking just a few of his posessions out early????) -Bucher on ESPN, said Kobe is having knee tendinitis problems. -Kobe tentatively to be at Lakers at seasons start, but his camp hopes he's traded still. So basically it seems like, the same Kobe rollercoaster from the Spring, and that nothing will come from it. That would be my read on this. Seems like Lakers decided they will trade Kobe if they get Deng...but Bulls not offering that, will just keep Kobe, until later date, if they can't get Deng.

Kobe slimmed down this offseason to play minutes at the point and run the offense. He's not going to play small forward, he's too skinny. He'll get over powered easily by players like Carmelo and LeBron.

LATIMES
Los Angeles Times - Kobe Bryant acknowledged being "caught off guard" by comments made last week by Lakers owner Jerry Buss, but said he would "strap it up" and play if he were still on the Lakers' roster when the regular season rolled around Oct. 30. Bryant granted a brief interview Tuesday afternoon to a small gathering of reporters awaiting him near his Bentley in the players' parking lot of the Lakers' training facility in El Segundo. Bryant, when asked Tuesday if he had played his final game in a Lakers uniform, was non-committal. "I don't know," he said. "Talk to Mitch [Kupchak] and Mr. Buss about that. I'm just getting ready. If I'm here, I'm ready to strap it up. My job is to play the game and get ready to play the game, and that's what I'm doing. "It's my job to play basketball. It's not my job to worry about what management is doing. I'm just going to get ready and let them do their job." The Lakers declined to comment publicly, but they are not looking to trade Bryant. "There's nothing imminent," Jackson said. He removed some personal items from his locker, but some remained. "There's a book sitting there," Jackson said. "There's a net bag with some workout clothes that were sitting there this morning. There are things that were out of the locker, I will say that." Jackson did not peer too far into the future. "We can't project anything right now," he said. "I think there's a certain progression of things that we have to go through. We have to see how the feelings are in the situation, see if there can't be some remedies for it. From there, the next step takes place, and that is, how do we go forward as a basketball club?"

I'll want from Chicago both Deng and Andres Nocioni you put one of them in SG and your set if your the Lakers.

Thanks for the updates BG7. I'm sure Bulls have to be excited about landing Kobe Bryant.
I think Chicago makes out like bandits, but if the Lakers are focused on rebuilding they do get some talent back with a lot of upside. Does the trade above work salary cap wise? Seems like the Bulls are short unless they have the cap room to absorb the difference. Deng is still only 22 versus Josh Howard who is already 27.
I'd love to get Nocioni at of the deal as well.

I think its quite obvious, with PJ Brown not signing with Dallas yet, despite the interest, that Paxson has been in touch with Brown, and telling him that he will be used in a S&T if needed...and Brown is waiting out, to get that last potential big pay day.
Brown's contract, due to the CBA, has to be 3 years...but the catch is, that only the first year has to be garauntted, so in essence, Brown could be made into an expiring contract of sorts. The exact figure that the first year Brown's contract can be, without being BYC, is like 9.6 something, so I just use 9.5 million when doing trade calculations.
Bulls Trade: [9.5 million (PJ) + 3.3 million (Deng) + 1.9 million (Khryapa) + 1.8 million (Thabo)] * 1.25 - 19.5 (Kobe) = +1.1
Thus the trade works under the CBA. Nocioni, Joe Smith, Aaron Gray, JamesOn Curry cannot be traded in a package until December 15th, which somewhat eliminates those possibilities.
