Gilberto recently returned from captaining his country to success in the Copa America. He says it was one of the proudest moments of his career.

Brazil had come under heavy criticism after their disappointing World Cup 2006 campaign and the midfielder believes winning the trophy was an excellent riposte to that tournament.

"It was fantastic for me,” he told Arsenal TV Online. “The proudest moment for me because it was the first time I was captain of my country and we won a big competition.

“No one expected us to win it but we just regrouped as players, staff and manager and we didn’t care about people outside that criticised us. That made the difference."
