Last night on the Laker Line (post game Laker game show), Matt Money Smith said the deal on the table right now is Hinrich and Deng (plus fillers) for Kobe. Right now Paxson is contemplating whether or not to pull the trigger because he needs to convince himself this move puts Chicago over the top. Paxson handpicked the current Bulls roster so he's not sure he's ready to give up on his blueprint for Kobe.
The Bulls projected starters would be:
PG - Gordon SG - Kobe SF - Nocioni PF - Noah or Thomas C - Wallace
This is a formidable lineup especially in the East. This roster is a lot more talented than the team LeBron carried into the Finals last season.
Lakers get two young, talented players to add to their new core group and this might be the best deal they'll get if they end up trading Kobe.
The Lakers projected starters would be:
PG - Hinrich SG - Fisher SF - Deng PF - Odom C - Bynum
Thoughts on this trade?

Honestly, I would rather want Gordon or Tyrus/Noah in place of Hinrich. We have way too many players at the point. Beng Gordon would give us most of our scoring. And a Tyrus/Bynum/Deng frontcourt looks monsterous. Tyrus is an athletic freak. I wouldn't mind Thabo, but that would be too much.
Also, Kobe might not accept the deal knowing that when he gets to Chicago, their two best players are gone.

The Lakers backcourt would be a log jam, but they could always make another deal later on to add a missing piece. Farmar and JCritt both have value, but neither are as good as Hinrich. I think there's a potential down the line for a Hinrich/JCritt backcourt because JCritt is more than capable of scoring in this league. Having two playmakers who can penetrate and shoot the ball is something the Lakers have been missing. Hinrich is one of the better defensive guards already and has been a target for the Lakers the past few seasons.

That wouldn't be too good for the Bulls to have Gordon AND Kobe, both players need the ball in their hands...I just don't see it working out as good as Deng for Kobe.

Chicago needs to hold onto Deng. Hinrich, Gordon, and fillers should draw the line for the Bulls, in my opinion.

No Deng, no deal is the Lakers stance and they won't back down from it. Paxson is currently negotiating deals for Gordon and Deng, so if he doesn't make any progress with Deng by Oct. 30th expect this trade to take place.
PJ Brown is officially retired and won't be part of any sign and trade.
Dallas is trying to find a third team to get involved who's willing to take Jason Terry.

Hinrich is a good player, but seeing as we already have at least three people at that position... I'm not sure. I mean, we are talking about giving up Kobe here.

The Lakers get two starters for one, and both are young and can develop alongside Bynum, Turiaf, and JCritt.
They can stockpile talent figure out which guys are working out best and deal the other pieces to round out the roster.

Yeah....this isn't happening. Bulls would have to trade 5 players to make this work (Duhon, Khyrappa, and Thabo) in addition.
With PJ Brown retired, a deal is highly unlikely now. Maybe later in the season, when Smith can be traded, a trade will crop up again...but then again, Bulls might be running away with the East, and snub the Lakers on any trade unless its highway robbery (such as taking both Gordon/Deng out of the equation, and making it Hinrich and fillers for kobe at most).

Make it Hinrich, Deng, and either Thomas or Noah (I'd obviously prefer Thomas) or no deal. Personally, with all the trades I've been hearing recently, I'd much rather have us hang on to Kobe and see what we can do with this roster

I'm not sure why PJ Brown wouldn't agree to this since he'd get a lot of money for doing next to nothing.
Brian - I don't think the Lakers are a position to demand all those players back, but I agree with you about sticking with Kobe and seeing what this team can do. They've looked ok in preseason and that's without Odom in the lineup. The offense has not missed a beat, but the defense is still shakey. However, I love the idea of a huge frontline with Odom-Turiaf-Bynum out there. Both Turiaf and Bynum went off last night and if they can continue to score in the paint and pay teams for single coverage on them then the Lakers can make some noise. Once teams begin double teaming either guy it will open up the jumpshooters and driving lanes and the Triangle will be in full effect.

I actually like this deal but I think we already have to many PG's in Fisher, Karl, Farmar, Crittenton and Hinrich and we already have a lot of SF's so we need to trade some of those guys for SG and a solid PF and we will be good.

Just a clue into Laker fans. Crittenton and Farmar aren't that good. Fisher is solid, but old. Point guard definitely isn't a strong position for you guys, so balking at a trade because you have fantasy point guard depth doesn't make sense.

Bottom line is we have way too many point guards. We don't need anymore, Fisher will be mentoring Farmar and Critt. Like I said before, I would rather take Ben Gordon instead so we'll have some scoring in return for Kobe. Farmar, Luke and Lamar will be handling the ball most of the times.

What counts is we have a lot of talented players on the bench we can turnaround and deal later.
Hinrich is better than anyone we have and is young enough to be a major building block for the Laker franchise. I think JCritt plays more like a SG as does Fisher and both have the size to play the two guard against most teams. Jordan Farmar is backup material and a change of pace guard.
Hinrich-JCritt-Deng-Turiaf-Bynum would be the future squad.

I'd take Gordon over Deng too.
But Farmar will probably be on a different team, Fisher retired, and Crittenton out of the league in 2-3 years...so I wouldn't be going around rejecting point guards that can be building blocks to your franchise.

Deng is the Bulls best player, the package MUST start around him. Hinrich, Deng and Thomas or Noah would be a good package for the Lakers and I could see a deal like this happening.
The Bulls would still have
PG: Gordon/Duhon, SG: Kobe, Thabo, SF: Nocioni, PF: Smith/Noah or Thomas C: Wallace
That team wins the East in my opinion and takes you to the finals. Without doing this trade I think The Bulls will have a hard time getting past Allen, Pierce and KG.

Lakers will not be in a position of leverage when dealing with the Bulls. They might get Deng, but they aren't getting Hinrich, Gordon, or Thomas with him, thats for certain. They might get Noah with him, but even thats a bit of a stretch.

The only posts that make sense (to me) in this thread are the one about Hinrich being BYC (Shape), PJ retiring (Shape), and what else the Bulls would need to add to satisfy the CBA (BG7).
I really don't see Paxson giving up Hinrich and Deng in a trade for any one player, and I really don't see him giving up Hinrich unless he's pried from Pax's rigmortis-set-in dead fingers.
I do think Shape's right - it's Deng or forget about it. And it'd have to be something like Deng and Wallace for Kobe and filler. At that price, I'm sure Pax would have a tough time pulling the trigger.
Assume the Deng+Wallace for Kobe deal. Can Kobe actually fit in on the Bulls? I don't see the Bulls needing or even wanting Kobe to dominate the ball and take 30 shots per game. I don't see them playing Gordon at PG to not score/shoot. Nocioni deserves quite a few touches, as well.
