I want to like Tiki Barber. I was impressed with the work he put in to overcome a fumble problem that plagued him early in his career. However, since he started grumbling in the press, my respect for him has really taken a hit. Now, as he leaves the game, he decides to throw Coughlin under the bus as he leaves. Perhaps he has a point about how demanding Coughlin is, but his production under Coughlin was greater than under Fassell. Perhaps it's not what he's saying, but how it's coming across that bothers me. "The grind took its toll on me and really forced me to start thinking about what I wanted to do next. And that's not a bad thing. That's a good thing, for me at least. Maybe not for the Giants, because they lose one of their great players, but for me, it is," Barber said One of their great players? Full of yourself much, Tiki? Shouldn't you let others decide how great you are? Tiki only put in a couple of seasons where his fumbling wasn't a huge concern, so how many years total can you really consider him an elite back? Two or three? When you think about the great players that have played for the Giants, how long will it take you to think of Tiki? Tiki's biggest concern right now should be to not let the running of his mouth eclipse his legacy of running the ball. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2763247
Tiki was their best player. He really did carry that team the last 3 years. I?ll give him that. I want to remember some good things about Tiki Barber but in my opinion part of the Giants biggest problems wasn't Eli Manning or Tom Coughlin it was the "leaders" in the locker room. All of them were full of themselves and all of them put themselves ahead of the team. Whether it's Strahan, Shockey, or Tiki Barber. I'll probably remember Barber as a good player but a person who though of himself as a team leader but in reality he wasn?t any good at it.
You are absolutely right about them being too full of themselves. I remember a draft a couple years ago when Peyton Manning's little brother thought he was too good to play for San Diego.
