I read Detroit has placed the Transition or franchise tag on (DT) Redding. Thus, about 20% of their 2007 cap is spent on their top 3 DT's. Alot of teams should be envious of the Lions having a quality DL, It serves well for implementing the Tampa cover 2 scheme. My thought was it seems the cap is unequally distributed w/ DT getting such a big portion.
Any news about their QB situation? I heard they are willing to trade McCown to unload some space if they go QB in the draft. Kitna doesn't look like the starter anymore and if they do trade McCown, it would be obvious to take Quinn.
Actually, I believe the coaching staff came out and said Kitna was going to be the started next season regardless of what they draft. I think they have to go Brady Quinn myself, but there's a lot of people pulling against taking him. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact he played at Notre Dame. He's been overevaluated. He's still a great QB prospect.

If I'm Millen though you need to find that future player that could save your job. In my opinion that's Brady Quinn. If he turns out good it could save that franchise as well as Matt Millen. However it appears for the 1st time ever Millen is going to play it safe and take Joe Thomas which is fine by me. I think he's the 2nd best player in the Draft and he really looked great at the combine. It's a safe pick and probably makes the most sense from a football standpoint but Thomas isn't going to turn the franchise around like Quinn could. I think Drew Stanton is a real possibility in round 2 or 3. I like Stanton a lot. Haven't really watched him yet today at the Combine. Haven't had time but he impressed me some at the Senior Bowl and I think he'd fit into Mike Martz's offense well.

Am I correct? Either way, neither would be a bad pick but they still have the possibility of trading down if they wanted to.

He's my top player and Tampa could get a steal at #4 as weird as that sounds.

Just one percent that it'll be a QB INDIANAPOLIS -- Here's a breakdown, as of this moment, on the Lions draft odds by position: Zero percent -- Receiver, linebacker, tight end, cornerback or safety. One percent -- Quarterback. Four percent -- Running back. 95 percent -- Offensive or defensive lineman. From what I'm hearing and seeing, there's virtually no chance the Lions will take a receiver in the first round, even if Calvin Johnson is by far the highest rated player available at No. 2. The odds on the running back position can flucuate on a couple of factors. If Kevin Jones stays on schedule for his road to recovery and the Lions pick up some insurance in the free agency market, the percentage on them taking Adrian Peterson dips to zero. If Jones suffers a setback and/or the Lions dont't get what they want in free agency, the odds on Peterson will skyrocket. I still believe Rod Marinelli wants a defensive end with a pick anywhere in the top five. I think, at this point, the Lions are leaning more toward Gaines Adams than Jamaal Anderson, but that could change. The wild card is Joe Thomas, who has all the talent and character the Lions are looking for. Like I said, he's going to be tough to pass up.

After 2007, look for former 5th rounder Dan Orlovsky and McCown to battle for the starting job. They both fit the Martz mold. (See Green, Warner and Bulger.) Questions for Rod Marinelli
QUOTE

What are your thoughts about Brady Quinn? ?He?s a heckuva quarterback from what we?ve had a chance to watch him and we?ll look at him more and more. He?s a guy who can win, he seems to have a great feel for the game, nice leadership and presence and I think he?s a guy who can come into any system and play. (Offensive coordinator) Mike Martz puts a premium on that, the intelligence and the accuracy and the leadership and he seems to have all of those qualities.?? Mike Martz said he really likes his three quarterbacks. How will that affect Detroit?s decision to draft a quarterback? ?We all do. We love Kit (Jon Kitna). It?s not a need so much for next year ? Kitna?s there (as the starter), but we might be able to find a quarterback for our future. The thing I said the other day, a young quarterback has a chance to be around Jon Kitna for a few years, that?s special. Carson Palmer had that in Cincinnati. He has the leadership, the quality and the intelligence and he?s special like that. We might be in a great position to draft one.??
