It was kinda safe to say that more teams were changing to 3-4 a few years ago. But now something for the offenses.

During the playoffs, it is proven that teams that used a two-back system seem to have a better chance in the playoffs. Just think about it. The final four teams both had RB tandems. In the AFC, the Colts had Addai and Rhodes while the Patriots had Maroney and Dillon. The NFC which the Bears had Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson while the Saints had Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush. Coincidence (spelling?)? I doubt it.

See, the reason why they got farther is because they had fresher backs in the game. You could make the arguement that they weren't that run-oriented and had a reliable QB to stay with except for the Bears. They beat teams that had a featured back. Other playoff teams were the Chiefs' Larry Johnson, San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson, Baltimores' Jamal Lewis, Seattles' Shaun Alexander, and Philidelphia's Brian Westbrook.

It is also a great offensive strategy as well. A great example is the Super Bowl Champs, the Indianapolis Colts. During the playoffs, they started Addai to run the ball early. When around the second half of the game came around, they threw in Rhodes who had fresh legs against a tired defense. He did pretty well against it.

And it seems that more teams might be using more two-back systems in their offense. At first, it was just a few teams that just had a third down back or a change of pace back. The Falcons were a good example with Warrick Dunn and TJ Duckett. Last years' Super Bowl Champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers had Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis. I also said before that Arizona might do that with Edgerrin now that he is entering a dangerous time for running backs. Both New York's might be doing it next also.

    What do you guys think?

Not to hijack the thread but Miami had some success w/ Brown and Ricky back in '05.

I saw a rumor saying the Cards might draft Adrian P and team up w/ Edgerrin James.

I tried not to bring that up since I thought it would bring back memories of Saban and how he was going to turn around the Dolphins organization, but whatever.

Many times when you have the two back system is when one want to take all the carries (Corie Dillon) they might want a trade. But really with the Colts It was so that Addai wouldnt have to take all the carries

dats a very good point. i like the two-back system, u get a power back and a speed back and consistently switch up the pace and if u do it right the defense wont know what hit em. and it gives u a chance 2 see more talent out there. alot of ppl doubted leon washington, but look what happened there wit the jets. they had like three backs with barlow and houston. so i like the system

I think you make good points. Fantacy Football be damned! lol
Seems like the Lions are heading in that direction also. KJ and drafting Calhoun last year. Now trading for Tatum Bell and havingT.J. Duckett in on Tuesday and Chris Brown in yesterday.

I see multiple backs in the Lions backfield in 2007.

I think the durability concerns at RB are obvious, but just because teams have 2 solid RBs doesn't automatically translate into a team running the ball as their 1st priority. The Pats for example are still a pass 1st type offense as are the Colts.

And it doesnt always work, look at falcons, they play 2 RB and a FB in backfield and dont bother with a QB and they missed playoffs

When you talk about the Falcons, I don't think Vick actually counts as a QB.
