BK waiving Byars wasn't a stupid move. It was kind of expected because we've got an overload of swingman on our roster anyways. With Dalembert seeming to get injured every other game, we need more players up front, and Byars was just the odd man out. I'm not really upset with him getting waived, but BK really should have thought things out before he wasted the 30th pick of the draft</p>
Derrick Byars can play. He slipped a tad further in the draft than I thought he would, and I think he's one of the more NBA-ready wings to come out this year, to tell you the truth. He has a lot of skills, and no giant glaring weaknesses. He's got good size, he can defend, he can shoot the ball, he played a little point guard as a teen, he's tough, he plays hard.. I don't think he's going to be anything that will knock anybody's socks off, but I think he will be a nice role player to have. I definitely agree that he doesn't really have a place in Philadelphia, with Iguodala, Carney, Korver, Green, and now Thaddeus Young on the wing. Somebody will pick him up, and whoever does will be happy with him. I think Charlotte should take a look at Byars, with the loss of Adam Morrison. Sure, they have Dudley to bring in, but having a little insurance with Byars wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe New Jersey, as well, if Antoine Wright doesn't get his act together quickly. If Jim O'Brien isn't ready to give Shawne Williams a big role this year, Byars could earn some playing time there as well.</p>

The NBA is about talent, especially for a team as bad as the Sixers. They are in no position to sacrifice talent for size. Calvin Booth is a not talent dead weight whose minutes would be better given to the young guys. Additionally, the Sixers don't need Kevin Ollie as a 3rd string PG.</p> Now sure, Booth has a 2 year deal with the second at the player's option (once again, King is an idiot) and Ollie is making over 3 million, but the Sixers are so screwed financially this season anyways, they might as well keep the better player.</p>

Well, according to what I've read, Byars never really had a place on the team from the get go. He didn't look good in training camp, didn't look good at all in the summer leagues, and didn't look good in the preseason. Given that we already have a glut load of young swingman, he has no role on this team whatsoever. If if we had kept him, he wouldn't have seen any playing time throughout the season. The guy couldn't even get himself some playing in the summer leagues. I do wish Byars the best of luck, and I hope he has a successful career. But maybe there is a reason why couldn't impress the coaching staff, and maybe there is a reason why he fell all the way down to the middle second round</p>
