There's 8 or 9 different fires going on. Some were started by downed power lines, but the ones near my place are being investigated for arson. They contained most of the fire directly behind our place, but the fire to the east of me is still out of control. The air quality was terrible today and my car had a lot of ash covering it.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. The firefighters are doing the best they can and some water scoop planes from Quebec have flown down to help put the fires out.

There haven't been a lot of deaths or injuries (at least not reported yet), but a lot of people have been displaced and a lot of homes have burned.

A lot of damage. They should create a better system of taking the fires out.

In the past few years when there were fires in SoCal, the air here in Vegas would smell like burnt paper. Oddly, these big fires so close by aren't evident at all from here.

My senator, Harry Reid, said yesterday it was caused by global warming. LOL.

I lived in California 13 years, and every year some big part of the state (lots of acres) caught fire and burned for days. This is pretty typical, just the fires are in highly populated or expensive areas this time around.

Lots of luck to you, shape!

I'm on the other side of Irvine Shape so I'm lucky the Irvine fire hasn't gotten me, but my friends up by Northwood on that side of Irvine had voluntary evacuation on Monday, so I was helping them move some stuff to a relative's house. My heart, prayers, and blessings go to everyone in SoCal right now. Be ok everybody
