Step 1....11/11 starts the Beck era. You cant go into the draft without knowing if Beck is what they thought he was when they drafted him. It appears there are 3 potential 1st round QBs available, so you need to know.

Step 2....decide if you are a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense. This hybrid crap is exactly that. Get an identity.

Step 3....Jettison all veterans that don't fit that identity either by release or trade. Absorb the cap hits while you suck.

Step 4....Draft the most expolsive athlete available with the 1st pick of the draft regardless of position. This is assuming you cant trade and stockpile, which they may not be able to do. If you grade McFadden out as that guy, pick him....if its Dorsey, pick him. If its Long, ok. Just pick whoever is best.

Step 5....with the exception of a LT, a TE, or a trancendant athlete, draft exclusively defense.Solve the defensive problems by throwing numbers at it.

Step 6....take a conservative approach to free agancy unless a trancendant athelete becomes available.

In todays NFL, it can turn around very quickly and If Beck is an above average NFL QB, the offense will be good with the players they already have. The line has been very good all year, but a seriously big time LT could take that unit to elite status. They do need a TE to take the next step as well. The defense has problems at every position. In the draft, I will have no problems if they simply draft the best defensive player available with every pick. Id like to see them get fast and agressive again.

I miss Jimmy Johnson. He built one heck of a defense when he was here.

I was against starting the Beck era until next season. As I mentioned yesterday, in Dale's thread, regarding Brown's injury. The Beck Era might as well begin on 11/11/ Its time to put Beck, Booker, & Ginn on the field at the sametime.

Scraping the hybrid D is a real good idea.My call is for an aggressive4-3 like the Ravens used to run and Philly was so goodat a few yrs back.Thedefensive personnelnow is better suited to a 4-3 anyway. There is enough young talent on the D Line where the draft can be focused on LB and secondary. Though, St Dic from Michigan has impressed me. You draft Zach's successor (Leaman from Illinois), another LB , & a shut down CB and things should get better.

Tamme (TE) from Kentucky has impressed me the few times I've seen him this year. You don't need to get Long orBaker @ OT. There is a kid at Toledo (Greco ?) who may struggle his 1st year but could be what the phins have missed since Richmond Webb retired.

p.s. Transcendant does that mean really good or is it some Yoga thing Ricky W try to be? lol.

Screw it all, draft Dorsey #1, convert to the Cover 2 and lets join the 21st century....maybe the corners can play in those zone, because they sure cant cover man to man....or go to a 3-4, groom Soliai as the big ass nose tackle and draft LBs like your the damn Steelers....whatever you choose, just choose a path and move that way with conviction....i really am confident that the offense is progressing into a top notch unit, so revamp the defense on the fly and lets get back to winning 9 games a year and bitching about that

I heard the Cowboys have a serious Jones forMcFadden (pun intended). Trade what should be the #2 overall (Rams have a weaker schedule & should get the #1) to Dallas for their 2 1st rounders. There may be some additional compensation needed to make this deal go down. Call it J Taylor for Julius Jones &a 5th and pull the trigger.

The more I watch the Colts; the more impressed I am w/ their version of the cover 2. Rod Wright & Fifita couldrotate as the UnderTackle (Sapp's position)... Thats what Fifita played @ Utah... Soliai played both tackle positions. Draft G Dorsey to solidify The D line. Will Allen & T Daniels could be decent cover 2 CB's.

Questions remain; Can Y Bell stay healthy to be the Bob Sanders type? His injury IMO has had some to do w/ the D sucking this season. Could A Wright (drafted in 07) be a hands down DE i.e. J Taylors replacement? Could Porterbe a Derrick Brooks type or would Zach?

I am offically starting the draft J Leaman (Illinois) as Zach's eventual successor bandwagon. Who wants to hop on?

Dorsey would be a perfect under tackle if they wanted to go to a cover 2....Zach Thomas would have been an ideal MLB for it a few years back
