Did having Shaq (for 40 games) and Wade (for 50 games) really boost Kapono's shooting percentages that much?
I mean, every season preview I read says the same thing: that Kapono can't duplicate his shooting from last season.
Kapono was playing with Jason Williams--not exactly the point guard that either Ford or Calderon is. He was also playing with Antonie Walker, who hurled up four threes a game, and low-threat scorers like Halsem, Mourning, and Posey.
This year he is going to be playing with a team that had 141 more assists last season than the Heat, shot a higher three point percentage, scored five more points per game, and besides Kapono is likely to have two players shoot 40% or better from three (Parker and Bargnani).
The guy gets his shot off like a gunslinger. He has a very quick release. I don't see why all the open looks we created for Parker won't be created for Kapono as well.

I'm on the same page with you on this one. The great part about this team is practically everyone can score, so that should mean some extra open shots if you're Kapono.

Well, over 50 per cent from three is pretty unbelievable. It's about ten per cent higher than his previous season high. I don't think he'll shot above 50 again this season but he'll be above 40 per cent for sure.
Is there a bigger three point threat in the league?

^ Was it Chris Rock who said the scariest thing in the world is a white man open behind the arc?
The volume shooters like Arenas might be harder to deal with but if Kap takes four threes in a game, you can bet he'll make two.

We run a fairly similar system to Miami's (post player drawing a double and a guard who penetrates), so I don't see why he can't have similar numbers. If he gets consistent minutes, I see him averaging in the high 40's.

If somebody said, "it will go down because he'll take a hundred more threes this season," I could understand that. But he is a low volume shooter and his career 3PFG% is 46%, and you'd expect him to improve during his prime (now and for two or three more seasons).

He'll shoot a good percentage, and he'll be top 5 for sure. He I think can make about 2-3 per game for 5-6 3pt shots taken. He will also probably play some pick and roll kick outs and draw defenders out to open things up for Bosh.
