Because of his lack in size, Steve Smith was thought to be nothing more than a good special teamer when he came out of college. With the right conditioning I think the potential is there with Wes.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King reports that the Patriots have given up 2nd(60th overall)- and 7th-round picks for Wes Welker.

The theory behind this is too sign Welker to a more reasonable contract than the one initially being reported.

This just gets better. That was alot of $ for WW but more picks from a division rival

I saw Steve Smith play in person during his college days & was aware of what his role might be in the NFL.

1st since when is Wes Walker the next Steve Smith? He's a hard worker. That's great to have but let's not drastically exaggerate Wes Walker skills.

Also Steve Smith was a 3rd round pick. He was not just expected to be a special teams star. I'm sure nobody saw him as the WR he is today but he was thought of as a good and potential solid #2 WR as well when he drafted. He was more than just a return man coming out of college.

Edit: I won't question Bill Belicheck. He knows what he's doing but Walker isn't going to put up 1200 yards in that offense in my opinion. Probably similar numbers he put up in Miami.

The Pats are on the move for Randy Moss.

Donte Stallworth too. Stallworth wants to play their according to NFL Total Access Adam Schefner. If they sign Stallworth I would assume they pull out of the Randy Moss sweepstakes. If they can't sign Stallworth then I could see the Patriots moving one of their 1sts for Moss. Seems like a bold move they'd make.

No WR puts up 1000 yards on this offense let alone 1200, but I do believe Welker's ceiling his higher than you're giving him credit for.

I really don't see Randy Moss going any where especially not to New England. Not for a 1st round pick & not at the contract he's got currently.

Stallworth sounds more intriguing, but he's had some recent character issues come up that might turn off the Kraft's.

The new deal for Welker is a five-year, $18.1 million contract that included $10.75 million in guaranteed money.

They might just sign Stallworth to a 1 year deal to prove his worth and that he doesn't have any character issues. Any word about Troy Brown and about him retiring?

There was an internet rumor that Donte was signed to a deal with NE, but that turned out to be a false alarm. Now if that leak came from Rosenhaus' end I would imagine that greatly diminishes any chance of the Pats getting into a bidding war for his services.

Troy Brown's status is still up in the air from what I hear. It is believed the Pats would like to have him return for at least one more season.
