We couldn't gt him locked up, but theres no need to panic, since the Hawks can match any offer thats thrown to him.
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/h...stalk_1024.html

QUOTE

Smith, one of just two players in the league last year — Phoenix All-Star Shawn Marion was the other — to average better than 16 points (16.4) while also finishing among the top in rebounds (8.6), blocks (2.9) and steals (1.4), said he's not concerning himself with matters that don't involve the Hawks making a push for the playoffs.
"We're on a mission this year," he said. "I can't let anything get in the way of that."
Smith is averaging 15.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.7 blocks for the 6-1 Hawks, who wrap up the exhibition season Wednesday in New Orleans.

They better hope he's not expecting Shawn Marion type money. Smart move by the Hawks since they have a lot of tough decisions to make with all their players coming off their rookie deals.

Very smart move. He needs to earn his money, and to ask for Marion type money, would make me laugh. While he is a very good player, he still has a lot to work on.

He will be a better player than Marion IMO. Maybe not offensively as close but he is better on the defensive end. If I had to choose between them I'd take Smith on my team.

His agent

QUOTE

"With the uncertainty surrounding the organization you would think that they would want to sign a player who has made it clear to them that he wants to be here [in Atlanta] and shown that he wants to improve as a player," said Wallace Prather, one of Smith's agents. "And it's very disappointing that they're not making it a priority."

What I'm worried about is keeping both he and Childress.

I think they can keep both, but that is if only both want to stay. I'm pretty sure that they do, so I expect both to sign soon. I don't like Smith's agent's statements at this time.
The team is coming together and to say that right now makes the players wonder. I think right now, Smith and his agent need to worry about winning, and his agent should keep his mouth shut because if he does, and the Hawks are winning, making the playoffs and so on, Smith gets a lot of money. So, I rather he have not said that but I guess that is pro sports.

With all the young talent they have, I'd be willing to pay a little extra to make sure that the player I'm locking up is worth the money. I agree, its a smart move.

With height, he'll have an advantage over Marion on the offensive and defensive end...he's just gotta figure out how to use that advantage to the fullest.

I'm not too worried. J-Smoove is going about this the right way I think, and in the end I think they will get it done.

If they don't, they are going to regret it.

QUOTE (mynetsforlife)

Smith would also never whine about not being #1.

When does he whine about being number 1? I say let the year play on, and see what happens.

He's saying Smith would never whine about not being #1, while Marion actually has whined about not being #1.
So he was complimenting Smith, and actually agreeing with you.
Oh yeah, and on a side note, I have a pair of J-Smoovs, and I love em.

Yea, Marion does whine and he shouldn't. My bad mynetsforlife.
Can you show me a picture of the J-Smoovs, I would love to see them.

A few people don't like the yellow-reds, remind em of ketchup n mustard haha. I love em tho, and have gotten quite a few comments on em.

Josh will get PAID this summer and the Hawks will match if they have any sense. Smoov is a great glue guy for ATL and has the chance to be something really special league wide if he can keep his emotions in check because he already has the 'i'll show them' work ethic. Losing Childress to resign Smith is worth it IMO.
