at first I had mixed reactions but I am getting used to the idea. We got him for nothing, Tim Carter can never stay healthy so overall I approve but I want to see Brandon Jacobs flourish under Tom Coughlin's running system.

    Thoughts?

Should of been a Packer :X

A very good trade by the Giants, they get rid of a solid yet injury plagued Wideout and pick up a very nice complimentary back who has been able to carry the load, very good signing by New York, while he wont be a Tiki(nor could he have been an Amahn for that matter), he will give them a nice 1 2 punch along with Jacobs.

One of the guys on the NFL Network pointed out that Jacobs and Droughns are similar type runners. It's a good point. I would have thought that the Giants would have gone after a faster back rather than pick up another big back.

I don't think its so much that they are the same type of runner because i thought that to.. at first i said why not get a speed back someone who could break it to the outside.. after further evaluation i realised this move is nothing more then an insurance policy.. I mean think about it we all know droughns can carry the load threw a season... whats uncertain is if Jacobs can.. so i think droughns is nothing more then insurance

I've always thought that Brandon Jacobs could be a really good feature back in the NFL. Call me stupid, but he reminds me alot of Eddie George and the way that Eddie George used to run back in his hay-day. Granted, that could mean bad things because runners like that tend to get beat up and their bodies take alot more then a quicker, bouncy runner.. but, if they can put Droughns in the mix, whether it be when Jacobs gets tired, a two-back system, or even just a third down guy.. it should preserve Jacobs, and allow him to have a great season.

I thought for sure that Dominic Rhodes would end up in New York, but I guess he's in Oakland now. That makes things a little more interesting as far as running backs goes as well, since I figured that if the Giants didn't get Rhodes then the Bills would get him, just incase they can't do something on draft day to get a good running back. I must say that this has been one of the craziest offseasons that I can remember. Last offseason was pretty nuts too, but I don't know.. the irony of this one with the trades, retirements, and some free agent signings has reminded me time and time again why I'm a huge fan of the NFL.

Iv'e been thinking this over a little longer, and iv'e kind of switched sides a bit, Others have mentioned that Droughns and Jacobs are both downhill power runners so there isn't going to be much of a home run threat from either of them, and not much of a change of pace either, i still think they'll feed well off eachother but it probably would have been better for the Giants to grab a faster shifftier guy to go along with Jacob's power.

^ I have a feeling that its going to go like this. First 2-3 games they will split carries probably 12- 15 each by game 5 or 6 one will start getting 18-22 and the other will pick up the change. Droughns is Cheap and we got him for nothing. Is he the best fit? Hell no but he has ran for 1k before so you know he is atleast durable and he played in Denver so he is used to the whole in and out concept at his position. I can see them drafting a quicker RB in the 4th round and se what happens as well. They got Jacobs in round 4 so i can see them gambling once again

EDIT:m Overall I think the only better fit still on the market is Michael Turner, he is a FA right?
