Easy to see it coming, Hite has a partially gaurenteed deal, and I believe if they kept Gill around his deal would becomd partially gaurenteed as well.

It was obvious all alongthat Hite would either be the 15th or 16th guy. I hope he makes it. The Nets never really seem to have any of those young undrafted free agents, some of whom develop into solid contributors once given a chance. I'm sure Ilic is a nice guy, but this is a business, and unfortunately the NBA doesn't give teams the ability to keep the rights of players that don't make their 15 man roster. I suppose it allows the marginal players a chance to shop around and find better situations for themselves, but it is hard as a fan. However, if the Nets could have 18 players under contract but just 15 on their NBA roster, then we probably wouldn't have Hite anyway; he'd be on the Heat. We'd have Hassan Adams, though.

Yeah, I was thinking Hite's still here when I saw this. Thank god, I'd love to see Hite stay here and contribute something to the team. We could use him....and he's entertaining as well.

Hite isn't going to contribute much, trust me. It has been proven by guys like Linton Johnson, Marc Jackson, Ron Mercer, Rodney Buford etc. We all believed that they would add some kind of spark to the team, which did not happen. And that's not changing with Hite, believe it or not. As far as I think, he's a waste.

I would rather see Gill as the guy who is going to practise and not play just to have another mentor for Williams but it seems like a money thing yet again.

Hite's talented, but he's not going to play anyway. Using money to buy out Ilicfor another guyat the bench wouldn't make sense. He would have more of a chance if he's a veteran who could give the younsters leadership despite not playing. Or a popular guy like Houston or maybe even Rod Benson.

This is obvious, so forgive me, but you need your end-of-bench guys to have that difficult combination of being able to contribute, while not making waves when they don't play for weeks at a time. Hite, I think, can fit that role. In Ilic, you have a guy who won't make waves but won't contribute; in Houston, I think you have a guy who would contribute, but would be unhappy with not playing. You know, last year no one thought that Mikki and Boki would have the roles they ended up with. The year before, Jacque Vaughn, Lamond Murray, and Scott Padgettweren't expected to play as much as they did. They year before, Travis Best and Buford unexpectedly played a lot more than Ron Mercer and Zoran. The question is, can we envision a set of circumstances that would force Hite to play ten minutes a game? I can. Could he at least hold his own and not be overwhelmed? Yeah, I think so.

Well 1-10 shooting, he probalby knew the writing was on the wall, hoping a 10-10 night would change Thornski's mind.
