Watch the video - Lakers Practice Report 10.24.2007

Here are the projected starters on Opening Night

     C - Kwame
    PF - Ronny
    SF - Walton
    SG - Kobe
    PG - Fisher

I guess the Lakers want Kwame out there to defend Yao Ming, which is the only rational reason for him winning the starting job ahead of Mihm or Bynum. The Rockets new offense involves a lot of high post, ball movement, and pick & roll. Bynum has struggled in the preseason defending the pick&roll because he's not sure when to show and when to sag, so he gets caught in no-man's land. Kwame is our best big man (at least last season) at defending the pick and roll, but I'm worried about the rust factor since he's been injured all summer.

I'm also concerned with the lack of offense in this lineup and Luke Walton defending an athletic player. Last season Luke got killed in the Rocket games because he couldn't stick to his man.

We will need our bench to outplay Houston and Kobe might need to go for 40 in this one.

Are you serious? Not Mihm or Bynum?

Why aren't either of them in the starting lineup? They have to be better than Kwame. Come on.

I was hoping that Radmanovic could be our starting SF for the opening game he has really played good this preseason.Kwame played pretty good last time the Lakers played the Rockets I hope he could try to stop him.Kobe has been struggling as of lately and I really doubt he could go for 40 but I'll be surprise if he makes 25 points or more.

He's been up and down in the preseason and was terrible in the Seattle game. I prefer him off the bench for some firepower. If he's having an off night they should bench him and go with Cook. Hopefully neither have off nights on the same night otherwise we could be in trouble. Guys like Cook and Radman are streaky players so PJax needs to use them only when they are draining buckets.

I'm not sure what more Bynum needs to do to convince the coaching staff he should start. However, most of his preseason success came with the second unit, because they did a better job of feeding him in the post.

Kwame is still the better post defender and matches up better defensively against Yao. I guess the Lakers will count on Turiaf to be the 1st option in the post with Kwame crashing from the weakside.

Did I just see somebody - a Laker fan at that - say that he doubts Kobe can go for 40? Wow.

About the lineup, I think Kwame is probably the best option you have to start the game against Yao. If you throw Bynum in there, he'd get in quick foul trouble and be uncomfortable with Yao when he steps out (especially in Rick Adelman's offense, where Yao will be at the top of the key a bit this year).

When is Odom expected back, by the way?

Odom is out for the first week of the season. He'll miss our first 5 games according to the most recent reports.

Kobe hasn't been himself this preseason I don't know whats wrong with him maybe he wants out or something wrong with his new role with the Lakers.I think he might get 30 points or more.

I think Kobe might go for 50 when the play the Celtics though.

I mostly understand the rationale of the lineup choice. If we don't have Kwame in there, we'll get destroyed by Yao, cause I don't know if Bynum or Mihm can guard him. I also like Radman off the bench. He can give us some much needed firepower with our second unit. If he started, I honestly don't know where to look for second unit points outside of Bynum, so it makes sense.

Kobe is just experimenting with being a facilitator and passer in the preseason, I think somewhere he said so himself that he was experimenting, but in season he wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

Honestly I feel that we NEED Kobe to score at LEAST 40 to win, with a starting lineup like that and without Odom. I kinda want to see Farmar and Critty out there together at least once just running, they play well together, I guess it's the on court challenging each other thing.

Fisher and Kwame shouldn't even be on an NBA roster let alone starting. Bynum and Farmar should get the start and keep starting till they prove they are good enough to keep around.

They don't even deserve a bench spot to you? Fisher has his times and Brown can play post D. Cook is the one that doesn't deserve a spot. Sasha has impressed me during the preseason.

Doesn't sound that odd to me.

Kwame is a huge dissapointment but he is a decent player.
