When it comes to Jose Calderon's future status as a Raptor, it seems people focus a lot on whether or not the Raptors would be willing to pay that much money for a backup PG. It's a legitimate question (personally, I think the Raps definitely should), but I feel the most important factor in how this situation plays out is Calderon's mindset. Realistically, how content do you think he is in his current situation? How badly does he want to be a starter? How important is money to him? How much of an attachment does he have to this team? These are all question that get overlooked in my opinion, but will play a big role in his future. I have to admit, his impending free agency is the most worrying thing about this team for me. And really, I don't have an answer for any of those questions. I'd hate to see him leave and flourish as a starter elsewhere, partly because I'm not fully confident in TJ Ford and partly because I'm so enamoured with his game, attitude, confidence, etc.

I would hate to see Jose leave and the Raps not get anything for him. I think BC is stockpiling assets so if he has to make a trade, the pieces are here.
Jose, Rasho and Dixon might be a deal waiting to happen but the point is the Raps have a few expiring or attractive contracts that could be moved failry easily.
As far as the questions about Jose go, well, the factors Chutney mentioned are all things we can't possibily know so I guess people focus on the tangible things they can agrue.

Humphries, Jose, Kapano and Dixon for KOBE! hahah seems every other team has a Kobe rumour why not us?

Maybe Jose, Parker, Rasho and Dixon, that's about $17 mill in salary and I think this year Kobe is still making under $20. Either way, I doubt Kobe would allow a trade to Toronto.
Jose is making $2.9 this year and I believe and UFA after this season.

Babcock signed him to a 3-year rookie deal which I believe makes him a restricted free agent.
I'd be happy to pay him as much as we're paying TJ. Who cares? We're going to be over the cap when we have to re-sign Mago anyways. Together Jose and TJ they make one of the best PG rotations in the league, let alone in the history of our point guard-starved franchise.
