With good reason....not too surprising given our salary structure going into next year.

I'd like to see him back next year, but at a lower salary. Defensively at least he now knows what is expected of him, and you need continuity if you expect to have a good team year after year. Even if he has a good year, I can't imagine a team throwing more than $3 million at him. I guess you never know. My assumption is that he'll play roughly 18-20 minutes a game, average 7.0-8.0 points, 3.4-4.0 rebounds, .6-.8 steals a game, and shoot at a .450 clip, and play solid defense. I'd be pretty happy with that. That's probably worth about $1.5 million per year or so.

I think it'll be a race between Antoine's offense and Boki's defense to see who the Nets will resign, to be honest.

I disagree. He should have been extended. Wright has been playing really well and has improved every season.

If I had to choose between Wright and Boki, I would take Boki. However, Thorn needs to stop wasting money on players like Magloire, McInnis, Marc Jackson, and Mercer.

I'd like to see Wright back, so if they can get a deal done for less than the option was going to be, I'd be happy w/ that. I do think he gets a little bit of a bad rep b/c of his outside shot not being what it was touted. He still plays the point pretty well and is one of the few guys that still runs the break w/ Kidd. I don't think we are going to get too many decent swingmen who will want to sign here as a backup to Jefferson and Carter, so I'd rather Wright stick around.

How much was the option? He was picked in the middle of the first round, so I can't see it being all that much. Are they going to re-sign him for less than the option? Probably should, but won't in the current NBA, if they don't pay more, somebody else probably will. They had him relatively cheap by NBA standards of a rookie contract, I think it was a bad move to let him go. I have a hard time seeing why you should let a player out of their rookie contract before you have to, especially when most picks are made looking at what players will be come several years down the road rather than what they are at the moment.

Good. He hasn't shown any improvement in his three years still he'll most likely be back at a cheaper price.

What could have been if Thorn hadn't been so obsessed with knees.

He has improved, but that doesn't mean he's worth the money we're going to pay him. Think about it, this way he knows that this is his year to really show case his skills on both ends of the floor. And if he busts out, that's when when we hand him the money.

I agree, but think depending on the market price for Antoine we could get away with signing both of them. Now whether Magloire is here next season waits to be seen.

Nets247.com reports his 4th year option was to be 3.6 million, he's pulling in 2.5 this year.

I'll be honest with you guys, I've been a pulling for this kid since we drafted him over Hakim Warrick (I still don't understand why) but realistically he hasn't yet earned his extension

I am worried about that this move would affect Wright's confidence once again, and he will busts out this year...

ive been pro-wright since we drafted him but i agree it was best to not pick up his option. there are too many times where he seems like he is in his rookie year. he is pretty bad on the break when he has to be the decision maker and he struggles with his confidence too much. i wont mind having him back at a lower rate if we cannot get an upgrade. plus this makes his easier to trade this year since he is now an expiring contract.
