QUOTE

One More Cut Needed

Oct 26 - The Raptors have to cut one roster spot by Monday (6 p.m.), although Sam Mitchell said nobody will earn or lose a spot based on the final two pre-season games.

It appears to be a three-horse field in terms of what players may be cut; Luke Jackson, Jamario Moon and Juan Dixon.

It's likely that Dixon's $2.9 million salary will come into play -- he may be too expensive to buy out. Moon, who has played well in limited minutes, has only a partially guaranteed contract (at $427,163). Jackson is set to earn $798,308 this season, which the Raptors could buy out without too much of a fuss. -- Toronto Sun

I really don't see Dixon getting cut. He has good experience, can play point in a pinch (though Delfino can as well), and has a big enough contract for us to not want to eat it.
I want to say Moon will make the team but he seems like the most vulnerable now.

I'd say Luke Jackson because it's inevitable for him to get injured again. I was surprised to see Juan Dixon on the list I thought he was going to replace Mo Pete's production.

I, not for one moment thought of Dixon as a big part of our team going forward, the only reason I believe he is on our team is because Colangelo realized he made a mistake signing Fred Jones so he traded Jones for Dixon who's contract is expiring soon so it was kindof a quick fix.

Dixon reminds me a lot of Jalen Rose. He can occaisonally provide a nice scoring burst off the bench, but he's also prone to being an inefficient ballhog and is always a liability on defense. Plus putting him on the floor always makes our backcourt way too small. I don't see him getting significant minutes this year.

yeah but like Speeds said he makes too much to get a buyout from the Raps, IMO. I think they'd swallow Jackson's contract which is well less than a mill I believe. I hope Moon makes it, he had a sweet alley-op last night and Dixon played well too.
I had high hopes for Jackson when he came last season but with Kap around and playing well, I think he's gone.

In terms of the rotation, I'm going to see who doesn't fit...
TJ, Jose, Delfino, Parker, Garbo, Kapono, Graham, Bosh, Bargnani, Rasho, and Humphries are guaranteed. That is more than a full rotation.
Leaves spots 12-15 (four roster slots) up to the following guys:
Dixon, Jackson, Moon, Baston, and Martin.
Martin will make the team because he is a mentor to our young PG's and a buddy of Sam's. Dixon will make the team because he is an experienced guy, a winner, and he makes too much money to waive him. Baston should make the team because he signed a two-year deal.
Leaves Jackson and Moon, IMO.
Luke is redundant with Kapono on the team now. Moon isn't going to see much playing time if we're still committed to developing Joey Graham.
Since we're talking about the 15th spot it will probably come down to money, and considering Luke makes twice as much as Moon, I think Moon will probably be the one to get cut. I'm not going to lose sleep either way, honestly.

I think we should cut Luke Jackson...We don't really need him...He's a finesse shooter, and he doesn't play any defense or do much of anything else. Jason Kapono, Anthony Parker, Delfino, Garbajosa and Andrea and Juan can all shoot the ball well...Jemario's athleticism intrigues me, and Juan is just a veteran who could possibly have some trade value later on...
