http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports...kn/5250911.html
The Rockets are going to release Lucas (expected) and Butler (unexpected) on Monday. Butler hasn't played well in training camp or in his few preseason appearances, but I thought he'd be kept because he's big, young, and has some offensive talent. The Rockets thought differently.
Sura will also be bought out on Monday, so that leaves one more cut to be made. The candidates are Steve Novak, Kirk Snyder, Justin Reed, and Carl Landry. I think it will probably be Justin Reed. I wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets are looking at trade options to cut down further on salary and perhaps nab an extra big.

Today is the deadline right?
I hope it's Reed. It would suck if we cut Novak and he startedshooting lights out.
2 more days, GO ROCKETS!

What happened to Jackie Butler?
I thought he was more than one of those guys who after they get paid they stop trying. He was really good in NY.

The butler cut was really surprising to me. I would have never thought that they would cut him. With Deke agining, they need a good backup behind Yao.

I'm also surprised the Rockets cut Jackie Butler, I guess he doesn't mesh in Adelman's system. GM3 is right, Butler looked promising in New York, but he hasn't been able to stick around. I actually thought San Antonio was a perfect situation for him, but he was a cap casualty for them. Maybe he ends up with Charlotte since their in the market for a big man.

He'd have saved us some money and I don't think Novak will turn out to be anything special.
Now we have to pay Butler $5 million in two years and any luxury taxes that his salary brings us.
