The Cavaliers did not make any major trades or sign any top free agents during the off-season, unlike many of their rivals in the Eastern Conference.

But it wasn't like the Cavs didn't try.

One player in particular the team pursued was former Cavs second-round pick Jason Kapono. Kapono, who also played for Charlotte and Miami, had a breakout year last season with the Heat. He led the league in 3-point percentage (51.4) and won the 3-point shooting contest during All-Star Weekend. Kapono also averaged a career-high 10.9 points.

Kapono became a free agent and ended up in Toronto. But before he signed a four-year deal worth about $24 million with the Raptors, his agent received a call from the Cavs.

Why do the Heat want another 3 point shooter? They have Jones, and they don't even use him.

After Kap was gone they wanted Pietrus, then took Davis when they couldn't get him, so I suppose they wanted somebody who can shoot the three but do other things as well.

Even if Kapono signed back with Cleveland I doubt he'd be getting alot of touches, their team is built soley on LeBron while the Raptors play more of a team game were everyone touches the ball down the court.

Yuck. I meant why do the Cavs* want another 3pt shooter from the Heat*? They already have Damon Jones, who they barely use, so what's the point of getting another 3pt shooter?

My guess is because Larry Hughes is so unreliable health-wise.

Hughes is a terrible 3 pt. shooter though. I don't really understand the logic behind this either. Donyell Marshall and Damon Jones were both overpaid over the past couple years to fill the same role.

Well with Sasha's status up in the air they were probably looking for somebody that could start if Hughes was out.

Yea that's true, I forgot about Sasha's situation. That teams in a mess if they were seriously looking at Kapono to replace Pavlovic though.
