http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...ract/index.html

QUOTE

Alex Rodriguez notified the Yankees on Sunday that he's opting out of his record $252 million contract, SI.com has learned. Rodriguez's decision means he will become a free agent and be able to negotiate with all clubs. Rodriguez's bombshell move will shake up the entire winter for the Yankees -- who had hoped to retain him with a big extension -- as well as other big-market clubs that will now pursue him.
Rodriguez's agent Scott Boras said he sent word of the opt-out in writing Sunday and left phone and text messages for Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. The Yankees have said that once A-Rod opts out, they wil not pursue him, since they will lose the benefit of the Texas Rangers' $30-million subsidy. "Alex made the decision today,'' Boras said. "I thought we should notify the club.''
The Yankees were preparing an extension to his current contract for either five or six years, believed to be for close to $30 million annually. However, team officials said Boras has politely declined to meet with them in recent days, and they never presented the offer.

Watch him get less than the 30mil Stein offered.
What an idiot. Unless he's going to Boston, he's doing it all for money. NY is were A-Rod has the (second) highest chance of winning a ring.

QUOTE (BG7 Lavigne)

Welcome to Chicago Mr. Rodriguez.

How does a team up for sale invest an insane amount of money in one player?
Is there an sale in place involving the acquisition of A-Rod?

What a dick Boras is for going to the press during the clinching game of the world series and leaking this.
That being said, come to the Dodgers A-Rod!

Buster Olney has got a good article on this:

A-Rod putting himself above the game

LOL, Peter Gammons just trashed him on Sportcenter for his disrespect of the World Series.
He also said something like "While Dustin Pedroia and John Lester are doing something he's never done, play in a World Series game."

He will be a Cub....it was never about the money for him(hes already made $100s of millions)....theres only one place where he can play in a hitters park, in a town that would embrace him, and for a manager he calls his 2nd father....

I thought it was pretty odd to opt out the day of game 4. Not a good move by A-Rod, but he knows something that we dont and that is why he did it today. Could it be that he knows who the manager of the Yankess is and it wasnt the guy we wanted? Is there a deal in place? Still, very odd to opt out the day of game 4.

QUOTE (o.iatlhawksfan)

some people just want all the attention.

Like Steinbrenner? With all the flap about Torre, the interviews for his replacment, & the Pay-rod negotiations.
I'll bet he ends up a Cub. If Cuban buys the team, I read, he give A rod part ownership.
