The Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to fire manager Grady Little and replace him with former Yankees manager Joe Torre, The Journal News has learned.

Torre, 67, could be named manager as soon as tomorrow, according to two sources close to the situation. Don Mattingly is expected to accompany Torre to Los Angeles as his bench coach. Torre is also interested in hiring Kevin Long, his hitting coach with the Yankees.

The Dodgers were 82-80 this season under Little and were beset by clubhouse unrest. Owner Frank McCourt, a Boston native, decided Torre is best suited to quell that situation.

Torre turned down a one-year offer to remain as manager of the Yankees on Oct. 18. He had been with the Yankees 12 seasons, winning four World Series championships.

Great situation for Torre. Dodgers have a good mix of young players and some vets already on the team and a stocked minor leaguesystem full of prospects. One ofthe best. Make a few moves, they'll contend.

The Journal News is reporting that Joe Torre will be hired as manager of the Dodgers. The announcement could come as soon as today.

Don Mattingly is in line to join his staff. Torre also is interested in Kevin Long. I suspect Long will stay with the Yankees but he is in demand.

UPDATE, 12:15 a.m.: The Times is reporting the story as well.

It has sure been a quite a few weeks in baseball. The job makes sense for Torre. He’s closer to his home in Hawaii and he knows Southern California from his time as an announcer for the Angels. It also makes sense for Don Mattingly given that his son, Preston, is in the Los Angeles organization.

If the Rockies made the World Series, how far away can the Dodgers be?

Here’s hoping Clint Hurdle names Torre to the coaching staff for the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium next season.

Dodgers and Torre would do fine there perfect for each other at this time the Dodgers need chemistry because of there problems they had with the veterans had with the rookies.I knew the Dodgers would go after Torre I'm just glad Grady "knows" Little would be gone I can't stand him.

I'm not sure if Torre is the best fit. He's used to personalities. How many real egos are on the Dodgers? (That's not a bad thing).

Donnie Baseball as a bench coach isn't that great, I'm afraid. I love him, but he's just not that good as a coach.

I wish them the best of luck, though.

I've heard that since Torre is going to the Dodgers, this could potentially make them a target for A-Rod. Any truth of this? I heard this a while ago on ESPN
