Oct 30 - Jameer Nelson has a contract extension offer in hand from the Orlando Magic, but he is still mulling whether or not to accept it before a Wednesday deadline because it is far below his initial asking price.

"It's close," Nelson said Monday following practice. ... "I'm a starting point guard. I need starting point guard money."

That said, Nelson means he wants much more money than the five-year, $30 million extension the Magic are offering. The Magic and Nelson's agent, Steve Mountain, have been negotiating since July with little progress because of the large money discrepancy. -- Florida Today

[*]With a deadline looming, Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson said Monday that there were "a couple" of contract offers on the table from the club he could accept, but acknowledged he also might be playing elsewhere next season.

"I'm prepared to leave," he said. "I'm prepared to get out of my comfort zone."

Mountain told the Orlando Sentinel by phone Monday, "We make no bones about it. We'd like to get something done, but it has to be a win-win. It has to be reasonable whatever it is." -- Orlando Sentinel

I would have offered him 4 years / 32 million extension. Not a year or dollar more.

Wow...I'd be surprised with him getting any more than that.

I don't see how Nelson can be upset. He was pretty bad last year and historically short pgs aren't that dependable.

Orlando is doing the right thing lowballing him. The best thing to do is handle this next offseason.

It's a fair offer for Jameer especially since the Magic aren't fully convinced he's the longterm solution at point guard. This team broke the bank with the Rashard Lewis mega-deal, maybe Jameer should dial up Shard's agent.
