Oct 30 - The Nets got just under the luxury tax threshold of $67.85 million and freed up some roster space by trading the guaranteed contracts of 7-footer Mile Ilic and swingman Bernard Robinson to New Orleans yesterday in exchange for guard David Wesley.

Wesley will be waived by the Nets, according to general manager Ed Stefanski, which will leave the team with 13 players on its roster.

If the Nets want to pick up an extra shooter for their bench, they could bring in Allan Houston. -- New York Daily News

[*]"It gives us roster flexibility," said GM Ed Stefanski. "We now have 13 guys. The max we can have is 15. We feel good about that flexibility going forward. There are no immediate plans, but we haven't had this flexibility in a while. This is something we'll keep looking at and see if anything comes up that makes sense for us. There's nothingon the table right now." -- New York Post

For how long ? We don't know.

I expect the Nets makes themove sometime in December, at the earliest. Otherwise, signup someone up in the middle of January, when they can take non-guaranteed contracts or pro-rated ones to avoid the tax.

Almost like sending one of our guys to the DLeague, just we have no financial commitments until we sign this rookie. You can always sign and cut the guy before the deadline, but he probably won't see the court.

We'll just have to wait and see what the injury situations are. Hopefully, there's no more than there currently is.
