Bill Shaikin has a small note in today's column:

Scott Boras is believed to consider the Dodgers a more serious contender for center fielder Andruw Jones than for Alex Rodriguez.

It's not the first time we've seen the Dodgers linked to Jones; David O'Brien suggested it several weeks ago.

Ned Colletti, you may recall, wasn't exactly thrilled with Scott Boras a year ago when J.D. Drew unexpectedly opted out. But it sounded like much of his anger was directed at Drew. Boras seems to disagree with the notion that Jones should come with a significant price cut this winter. Before the season he was talking about $20MM annually. He'd still want at least $15MM per year.

The signing could leave the Dodgers with an outfield of Juan Pierre, Jones, Matt Kemp, and Andre Ethier. One of the last two could be peddled, and the team might have soured on Kemp a bit. How about Kemp for Miguel Tejada?

A signing of Jones and Torre would be enough to help the Dodgers out.

He'd be a horrible pickup for the Dodgers. He's the strikeout master and not very good on defense.

He's not clutch at the plate for sure. Andruw has numerous gold gloves which I believe are for being better than average defensively.

I like how the Dodgers collect players the Braves refuse to pay ridiculous amounts for; Furcal, JD Drew, & possibly Andruw. rofl.

Exactly they seem to enjoy collecting ex-Braves and ex-Giants.

Actually, I read that San Diego is in the A Jones sweepstakes.

He hits well @ Petco. He came out of a slump there in Aug ( I think) and everyone was hoping he's light it up from there on out. It was not to be.

AJ may get you 40 HR's but 120 K's worth it. Believe me his whiffs come at real inopportune times.

Are you sure about that "not very good on defense" statement? Last time I checked, that was the only thing good left about him.

His defense is declining. All last yr, he looked like he lost a step or two.

But Jones is just one of those players, I'd stay away from. Something about him.

LA wants to make a splash, sign Arod and trade some of thoseprospectsto get other pieces.
