I think Adelman prefers Scola off the bench because of his passing ability in the high post. If he starts, then who does Houston use in the high post when Yao goes to the bench? I don' think you want the offense running through Chuck Hayes. LOL.

You're right about James/Bonzi off the bench. Those two are eating up the opposing teams second units. Bonzi really thrived under Adelman in Portland, so if he can work himself into better shape he could be a big lift for them down the stretch and into the post season. He's the Gino stopper!

Here's a funny story actually about Bonzi and Gino. They share the same agent, and after Bonzi declined to stay in Sacramento, Ginobili was trying to get his agent to move Bonzi to a team in the East, because Gino cannot stand the matchup. Gino was irrate after he found out Bonzi's agent worked out a deal to bring Bonzi to Houston, which meant Gino would have to face him at least four times a year. Hahahaha.

Why does everybody in here resort Bonzi's "shape"? Have you seen the guy? He looks fantastic and is really contributing off the bench.

Out of all the things I've been impressed with in the first two games, it's been the BENCH. Each game our starters have started very poorly. But for the first time in over 10 years we have a gang of pitbulls foaming at the mouth coming off the bench. I seriously don't think any team can play with us with the exception of San Antonio. I think Adelman is only in the beginning stages of his offense. Once it actually opens up, we could possibly be the best team in the league

Agree. Bonzi looks to be in very good shape this (contract) year, unlike last year.

Yep. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this offense develops. It feels great to finally have a potent bench.

Actually strength matters a lot more in the post. The reason being is you want to prevent them from being able to establish any position at all. Length doesn't make much difference when they can back you up. They may be able to shoot over Hayes, but I can tell you, they are not usually in a comfortable position when they do so. Length helps a bit more when you are helping from the weakside to get the blocks and trap, but when you are getting guarded 1v1, length isn't as important.

both are equally as important...last year chucks strength didn't effect boozer, because he has strength also.....so he elected to shoot right over him.....Scola is probably just as strong (if not stronger) and has more length..........anyways I'll agree to disagree, but my guess is Scola will be starting before the season is over with....Adleman is probably trying to get him accustomed to playing a little more before he makes the move though.

Firstly, Boozer is a stud and he's capable of having big games even against good defenders. Secondly, I really don't remember him taking advantage of Chuck last year. In fact, as I recall, they rarely matched up; but when they did, Chuck did a pretty good job against him.

I agree with foo that length matters much less than strength in post up defense. Chuck is short, and players can shoot over him. But he's pretty good at contesting shots anyways. It's hard to back down Chuck, and if they try to turn into the lane he's really good at swatting the ball loose.

Scola does some nice things on defense, but if I had to choose one to stick on Boozer I'd rather it be Chuck. Either would be better options than Yao, however.

Bonzi is not in top shape yet, there's a lot of room to improve on. He doesn't have the lower body strength he had in Portland and Sacramento. Bonzi was getting pushed around in the Laker game, a few years ago that never would have happened to him.

With all due respect ur really searching for stuff on Bonzi. The guy looks fantastic and has been for the most part a key contributor off the bench. He's in GREAT shape and has played pretty good. It seems like Bonzi gets unfairly blamed for stuff that doesn't exist.
