[IMG] "We have to be a scrappy team (without Jackson)," Davis said. "That's what made us successful. Guys have to step up. We're not too worried. We just have to go back to the drawing board. Last year, we lost our first game, too."

This was the post game quote from Baron after the loss. It's up to him to create this environment and force Utah into a scrappy game. Baron's stats look great averaging 20/10, but looking deeper into the numbers he hasn't been efficient. Baron is shooting 38.5% from the field and has made only 1 out of 13 from behind the arc including a lousy 1-9 last night against the Clippers. Baron was able to get to the line 16 times in the first meeting against the Jazz, but only made 11 of them count. The Warriors are at their best when Baron lowers the shoulder and gets into the paint. This creates opportunities for him to score hard points, or for his teammates to get an easy tip in or layup when the defense collapses. It's equally important for his teammates to make hard cuts to the rim and continue to move around so Baron find open seems and get them the ball.

[IMG] Deron Williams has been brilliant in his first two games for Utah. He has an impressive 3.5 to 1 AST/TO ratio and has done a nice job of choosing his spots and running this offense. Deron has made Boozer's job a lot easier, and Boozer is averaging a ridiculous 30/15 to start the season off. Deron's main role tonight is sticking with Sloan's system and not trying to go one-on-one with Baron Davis. In the Houston game, the Jazz got away from moving the ball around and tried to breakdown their defender instead. This ended up in a loss and Sloan reminded his point guard about his responsibilities. Deron has to also be careful not to get into early foul trouble defending Baron Davis. In two games Utah's backup point guards have looked awful. The combination of Ronnie Price and Jason Hart are a combined 1 for 11 on the season with 3 assists and 4 turnovers. Neither of them have the size and strength to handle Baron Davis, so it's crucial for Deron to stay on the court and get his team ahead by a comfortable margin.

Keys to the Game

[*]Rebound & Boxout - Easier said than done against this Utah Jazz team, but if the Warriors get outrebounded 56 to 37 again, it's going to be another blowout loss. In two games the Warriors have +/- rebounding differential of -18.0, that's unacceptable for a playoff caliber team. They are giving up a whooping 15.5 offensive rebounds to their opponents. In comparison to last season the Warriors +/- rebounding differential was only a -5.0 Someone needs to step and replace the rebounding JRich provided, and Biedrins needs to get a lot more active on the glass. Biedrins should be averaging at least 10 per game with the minutes he's getting. The Warriors might also want to consider playing with a bigger lineup and put a lineup out there consisting of Baron-Buike-Barnes-Al-Beans and see how they do. In the first meeting the Warriors only won the first quarter of the game and they did by staying close in the rebounding. Utah only outrebounded them 12 to 10 in that quarter, but Utah killed them on the glass in the second quarter (13 to 7) and again in the third quarter (18 to 7)
[*]Limit Turnovers - The Warriors can neutralize a lot of the second chance opportunities Utah is going to get by limiting the turnovers. The Warriors have to win the points off turnovers battle tonight to makeup for their lack of rebounding. The Warriors are averaging 15.0 turovers per game, but Baron is accounting for 4.5 of those on his own. He needs to get that down to 3 per game, and that only takes place if he stops dominating the basketball. Another culprit is Biedrins his averaging an ugly 3.5 per game, which is a killer if you're a big man. In the first game Baron had 4 turnovers against Utah and Biedrins had 5. Biedrins actually had more turnovers and fouls than he did points.
[*]Find Your Rhythm - Flat is the perfect word to describe how the Warriors have looked in their first two games. They've had flashes of their high flying uptempo game including the monster facial by Buike last night on Kaman, but the overall flare of this team has been missing. The Warriors need to find their rhythm because once it gets going those 3 point shots start dropping and then the rest of the floor opens up. The Warriors are unbeatable when they are hot from the outside. Nellie needs to figure out which rotations work well together and bench the players who are holding onto the ball for too, long and disrupting the offense. *cough* Pietrus *cough*
[*]Pound the Ball - Nellie said Utah "bullied" his team in the first game and Carlos Boozer led the bullying with 32 points and 15 rebounds. The Warriors don't have anyone to match up with him one on one, and Boozer should have another big game tonight. The Warriors will be playing a back to back game, and were worn out by a physical Clippers team. Utah went away from their inside attack in the Houston game, so Boozer needs to be vocal about demanding the ball and taking it inside early and often. If he can get early fouls on Biedrins the Warriors are going to struggle again. As mentioned above Utah killed the Warriors on the glass in the 3rd quarter, a big reason why was Biedrins only played 2:37 minutes during that quarter because of foul trouble.
[*]Transition Defense The Jazz have to be aware of the Warriors leaking out and creating fastbreak advantages. The Warriors are very good at pushing the tempo when Deron drives in and no one accounts for Baron in the backcourt. Unless Deron makes the shot or Utah rebounds the ball, the Warriors are getting two points on the other end in highlight fashion. The Warriors will be doing a lot of scrambling tonight and will gamble looking for the steals in the passing lanes. Utah has to be ready to switch from offense to defense when the Warriors win those gambles and prevent them from getting 3 on 1 or 3 on 2 fastbreak opportunities. Kirilenko should be the man for this job, because of his ability to run the floor and erase layups with his shotblocking skils.
[*]Heavy Dose of Millsap Even though Okur starts for Utah, the team really took over when Millsap subbed in for him. The Warriors had a tough enough time trying to slowdown Boozer, and when Millsap came in the Warriors had no chance against two physical power forwards. Millsap scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in just 28 minutes on the court. He had his way against them last year and has continued the trend this season.
Prediction

The Warriors probably won't recover in time to beat Utah on the road. The game ended late last night in LA and the team probably didn't get into Utah until 3am in the morning. Utah is coming off an embarrassing loss to the Rockets so they'll be focused for this matchup to get back on track. With the way Denver is playing, Utah has to keep pace in the Northwest Division. I predict another Utah win, but the Warriors will keep the score closer this time around. Biedrins cannot play as bad as he did in game one can he?

"That's what I'm here for," Davis said of the increased workload. "I'm not gonna complain. I'm just going to play. Whatever coach asks me to do out there, I'm going to do."

Harrington is starting tonight, he just drained a 3. Warriors got off to a sloppy start, but Utah hasn't capitalized.

    Nice pass insided to Biedrins!

Buike beautiful layup, nice body control. Timeout Jazz!

    Warriors lead 18-9.

The team is doing a much better job of rotating early on Boozer and stripping him while he has the ball at his waist.

Utah's bench has been the difference in the game. They've outscored the Warriors 16-5 so far.

Warriors aren't looking inside enough. POB has been sealing his man and has deap position, but Ellis and Al keep shooting bad shots instead of getting it to him.
