I don't ever want to hear that RJ can't carry the offense

Though RJ can't carry a team for 82 games, what big names can? Our Carter can't even get above twenty against a bunch of twenty two year olds.

I like how he went with his game this year considering nobody thought he was worth anything.

obviously its unrealistic for 1 man to carry a team for 82 games plus playoffs, but the big time stars delivery 9 outta 10 times. they are almost perfect and you can expect their best most nights. you even see games where duncan is just horrible, which is like 1 outta 82, but luckily for him he is on a great team and can afford more than 1 or 2 bad games, assuming they are not important games like a clinching game. with us, vince has to bring it every night. we do not have the luxury of having a great team where we can dump it down to a big man and let him work and let him carry us then pick him up. vince has to bring it then games where he is off the rest of the guys will have to pick him up. so far we are picking vince up and that isnt what we are paying him to do. granted it is only 3 games, but im still thinkin about the playoffs too since it left a sour taste in my mouth.

ps. does it piss anyone else off that after vince loses the ball at half court that he just give sup on running it down and lets the guy dunk/layp it up? at least jump and contest it. (im watching the encore and it was something i wanted to get off my chest).

i dont think its hate, just frustration. vince is obviously capable of being a top 10 guy in the league and great for us when he gets into the zone, but the last couple of games (this year and last) vince hasnt delivered. im not blaming the PO loss on him, but when you the main guy, the guy getting a huge contract you just gotta produce that is the bottom line.vince is such a likeable guy so every roots for him, but his play gets frustrating because you know he can do sooo much more than he is doing and just isnt doing it. i know vince won't be like this all year, but we have a bunch of home games coming up and he needs to snap outta his funk because we MUST take advantage of these home games or we will be behind the 8ball in a harder division and conference.

the only thing that frustrates me is that the reports and VC himself has said he's worked so hard on his shot this off season, even by having a shooting coach. I know it's only the first 3 games, but wouldn't one assume he'd already be on a roll coming into the season with his shots after working so hard?

vince touches the ball basically every single play. whether hes on the block or at the top of the key, what he does with it depends on him. he is making nice passes though so that is a good sign. he is drawing some double teams and passing effectively out of them. what i hate is when vince is basically 1v1 on the baseline but then starts to backdown the defender isntead of just attacking the rim, the old vince woulda went at him hard but this vince likes to backdown more, which is good because he can get someone open, but he doesnt get himself going.

because RJ has been so good so early everything should be going through RJ until he cools off or vince heats up. last year if RJ was hot we would still put the ball in vinces hand and hoped he would create or score, now we gotta keep riding the hot hand and taht is RJ.

this wont be the vince all year, but like i said we have a bunch of home games coming up and sooner or later vince is going to get hot and it would be great if he starts tuesday.

    This thread seems all wrong.

Rj didn't necessarily carry the offense by himself...it was more of teamwork. I feel that the offense was carried not only by RJ, but by Kidd, Wright, Krstic, and whoever else stood up and contributed to offense, whether it was by making the shots, getting assists, playing good defense to get the fast break going, or getting offense rebounds (of which Krstic got 5 in 16 minutes!!!). None of these guys should get overlooked, and especially RJ AND Kidd, both of whom probably contributed the most.

    RJ has been amazing.

Black Republican, I don't think people are hating on Carter. He's just not playing as well as he could right now. Whether that's a byproduct of the new system, rust, or just a minor slump, we all hope he'll be able to step up back to his excellent self, and most of us believe he will. I think we all appreciate how much he's given to the Nets over the past couple years, we're just a little frustrated with his start to the season so far, because we know he can be (and has been) better.

The phrase "carry the offense" is poorly defined.

RJ is a Pierce/Melo level talent who's had trouble staying healthy. His greatest strength as a player is that he can pass up shots, and redivert that energy into being effective in other areas of the game, like defense and secondary offense (fast break points, backdoor cuts - anything opportunistic).

Vince is more talented as a creator, but that's ALL he can do. RJ is a good, if not great, creator, but his real talent lies in his flexability.

rj can no doubt score and goes to another level in the playoffs but if nothing's working and ask him to create, he'll be in trouble...

vc has talent like no other, can create but he too soft and will oftentimes disappear in the playoffs...

jkidd can't shoot but is excellent at everything else...

we need ALL of them to carry the team and a decent big man...

Right now VC's hurt, RJ's just picking up the slack, hopefully we continue to run the princeton exclusively....and depend on it, when a basket is needed. Like i've mentioned before. Running a motion we go from a pick and roll 2 versus 5 matchup to a Princeton 5 versus 5 matchup. Tell me which is much more of a difficult defensive matchup?

I disagree. RJ is more effective when he doent need to create his own shot but rather he is better working in the flow of a motion offense. He is not as good as Melo/Pierce in terms of making his own shot and carrying an offense. He can create for himself but he is not as good when compared to the premier sfs/scorers such as Melo/pierce.

I think most Nets fans expect RJ to average somewhere around 20 ppg this year, should he stay healthy. He's playing above that now, but not by all that much (it's only been three games). Works outa lotbetter when Carter, Nachbar, Krstic and Kidd are your other options instead of Jacque Vaughn, Ron Mercer, and Rodney Buford.
