The Dolphins want to trade Culpepper now that they aquired Trent Green... I'm not sure how many teams will be interested in Culpepper since he hasn't been able to prove himself as a starter since his injury... I think the best they'll get is a conditional 6th round for him. If they decide to release him instead he'll probably end up signing a one year contract, he'll either win the starting job or be released, I don't think he's going to be willing to be a back up.

It would appear so but I think its a mistake

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>One day after acquiring Chiefs quarterback Trent Green via trade, the Dolphins informed incumbent Daunte Culpepper that they intend part to with him in a similar fashion.

On Wednesday, head coach Cam Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller met with Culpepper and stated their intention to trade him.

However, the the 8-year veteran was also told that he would not be released. According to Culpepper, the Dolphins said they intend to keep him on the roster throughout the offseason despite his inevitable departure.

Culpepper, who serves as his own agent, wants no part of a prolonged farewell.

"They would like to trade me in order to `get something for me,' '' Culpepper told the Miami Herald. "However, it is my position that I have already been down that road and I am not interested in being traded.

"They have told me throughout the off-season that I am under contract to the Dolphins. Therefore, it will be up to them to either keep me under contract or release me. In the meantime, I will continue to work out at the facility with the team and prepare myself for training camp, wherever it may be.'

Now that Culpepper, 30, has been medically cleared to practice, the Dolphins could in fact part ways with the quarterback seemingly without the threat of a grievance. The NFL's collective bargaining agreement forbids teams from releasing a player while injured.

The 11th overall pick in the 1999 draft, Culpepper restructured his contract shortly after being traded to Miami in 2006. He is set to count $6.375 million against the 2007 salary cap. A trade or release would result in a meager $625K cap hit. If released, the Dolphins could be spread that hit out over two seasons if the Dolphins if they wish.</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (blackadder)</div><div class='quotemain'>Culpepper now wants to be released and walked out of Mini-camp after the 1st hour yesterday.</div>
Yes, he walked out, but given no other alternative. It appears that he was just trying to get in some reps, and he was blocked. What was Terry Shea expecting for him to do? Not come in an practice? It seems like this was done by design:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Culpepper)</div><div class='quotemain'>"What happened yesterday in the team meeting and on the field was unfair to both me and my teammates. The NFLPA legal department is reviewing the situation and [executive director] Gene Upshaw has encouraged me to continue to be patient and professional."</div>
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The eight-year veteran participated in warmups during the Friday morning minicamp session and in some individual drills. Culpepper said he was then apprised by quarterbacks coach Terry Shea that he would not be permitted to take part in any team drills. At that point, Culpepper left the field, accompanied by Stu Weinstein, the team's director of security, and retired to the weight room.</div>
I'm kind of wondering about the source of my quote, though. Len Pasquarelli printed Daunte's age at 28 years old, which is two years younger than he actually is.

This whole thing should show players why they shouldn't be player/agents. Culpepper has come off looking a little incompetent more than once during this whole deal. It's like he doesn;t own a phone or newspaper subsrciption. He is always surpirsed about things the normal fan knew weeks ago.

He was just hoping to compete with Green for the job. He wanted to play for them. They just won't let him. I think Culpepper is getting a raw deal. Miami has him bent over....

That's crap. Culpepper isn't a child. He knows that the Dolphins weren't planning on Saban to bail and have to hire a new coach. He also knows that new coaches are going to look for players that fit their system. If making 8 million dollars to rehab an injury is getting screwed, then we should all be so lucky. Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor deserve for the Dolphins to try and improve that position and try to make themselves competitive quickly. Who knows if Culpepper is going to be able to play for anyone at a decent level ever again? Right now, Culpepper should count himself lucky just for being able to draw an NFL paycheck considering that he hasn't done crap in two years. (Let's not forget how bad he was sucking for the Vikings when he got injured.)

He is getting the raw deal in that Miami basically had no desire to even give him a chance to be the starter. Trent Green is there guy for now and John Beck in the future. That has been the plan since the NFL Draft. Cam Cameron wants nothing to do with Culpepper and the previous regime. However Culpepper knows the NFL game by now and it's business. Like it or not this is how it works. The team can hang onto him as long as they want and try to get fair compensation out of him. I don't blame them. They did give up a 2nd round pick for him which is a very high pick.

I actually think Culpepper in in position to go to a team and be the backup for a year and then next year he should be fully healthy and he could be a possible starter. The biggest mistake he could make is wanting to go in and be the guy right away. It didn?t work last year and it probably won?t work this year until he?s fully healthy and has his confidence back.

I agree with BJ & Porky on this in that the current regime NOT the whole organization is giving DC the shaft.

I wonder if Cam if rushing to judgement on this? As I've said elsewhere on this site; 1) there are similarities between Cam's scheme & Linehan's and 2) A depth chart of Green, Daunte, & Beck is more formidable than Green, Beck & Lemon or Hamdan. What gets me is I read Saban recently said DC could not move yet wasn't it him who insisted he play to start '06. Though, Who can really trust what that hillbilly Napoleon says?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DolfanDale)</div><div class='quotemain'>Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor deserve for the Dolphins to try and improve that position and try to make themselves competitive quickly.</div>
I read somewhere that JT & ZT are pro-Daunte.

We don't but I can see this coming back to bite the phins in the arse like passing on Brees TWICE. It took McGahee @ season to fully recover. Again, is Cameron rushing to judgement. I mean whats so effin great about Trent Green? That is the one thing I will say positive about Wanny. When the Rams were getting ready to kick Trent to the curb, Dave wanted nothing to do with TG.

Be that as it may, I'll accept whatever Cameron thinks is best. I am sick of all the Drama surrounding the phins QB for the last 8 years ans will be so glad once Beck takes the reigns hopefully late this season until 2017.

Well I can tell you from experience Saban does not make good QB decisions. He always has trouble picking a guy, and finally he gets set on 1 guy and gets him to start too early....i.e. DC. That was my only problem with him at LSU........Until we got sold out!

So, Matt Mauck was an anomaly? LOL

Saban is/was allegedly a secondary expert yet it was Miami's front 7 that was & still is the strength of the D.
