NEW YORK (Ticker) -- There was plenty of action Tuesday nightat Madison Square Garden. But this time it was for the rightreasons.

Eddy Curry scored nine of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, including a crucial three-point play, and added eight reboundsas the New York Knicks held off the Denver Nuggets, 119-112, inhigh-scoring shootout.

Zach Randolph collected 22 points and 17 rebounds and JamalCrawford added 23 and eight assists for the Knicks, whooutscored the Nuggets by 15 points in the final quarter tosecure the victory.

Denver's fourth game of the season and New York's third markedthe first time the teams met since December 16, 2006 when aroutine blowout turned into full-scale melee. But in this one,all the action was on the court.

After Crawford's runner gave the Knicks a three-point lead,Curry bulled his way to the basket, overpowering three Nuggets'defenders - powering in a layup while getting fouled - to makeit 115-110 with 55 seconds left.

Although Curry missed the ensuing free throw, New York would notallow Denver any closer than four points the rest of the way -icing the game when Carmelo Anthony missed two free throws witha chance to make it a one possession game with 12.4 secondsleft.

But looming over this exciting contest was last season's fight.

With 1:15 remaining in that game, the Knicks took exception tothe Nuggets having four starters in the game as coach IsiahThomas warned Anthony that the his team should not drive to thebasket.

On their next possession, that is exactly what they did as J.R.Smith was met with a hard foul by reserve guard Mardy Collins.Diminutive Knicks guard Nate Robinson intervened with Smith asthe action spilled into the stands while Anthony punchedCollins.

The incident resulted in a 15-game suspension for Anthony andeven less time to get acclimated with Iverson, who was acquiredfrom the Philadelphia 76ers less than a week later.

Everyone involved with the incident downplayed the events onTuesday and opted to focus on this game - at least the offensiveaspect of it. The Nuggets scored 37 points in the firstquarter, built a 15-point lead less than five minutes into thesecond and took a 66-60 edge into the break.

The Nuggets led by double digits for most of the first fiveminutes of the third, taking an 81-71 edge on Iverson's19-footer. But on consecutive possessions, the Knicks got a3-pointer from Crawford and a dunk by Renaldo Balkman to cut thedeficit in half with 5:44 left.

Denver went nearly five minutes without a basket, and New Yorkused an 11-1 run to tie the game at 82-82 on Crawford's hoopwith 4:15 remaining. The Nuggets finally broke their droughtwith 92 seconds left on a basket by Anthony and took a 92-82lead into the fourth.

Denver's third double-digit lead of the game evaporated quicklyas New York scored the first seven points of the fourth. TheKnicks were within 92-89 with 10:41 left and twice got withinone point before Nene's transition dunk with 7:36 held off NewYork temporarily.

But Curry and Randolph, who combined to shoot 20-of-31 from thefield, were too much for the Nuggets down the stretch.

Iverson scored 32 points and Anthony added 24 and nine assistsfor Denver.

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- There was plenty of action Tuesday night atMadison Square Garden. But this time it was for the rightreasons.

Eddy Curry scored nine of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, including a crucial three-point play, and added eight reboundsas the New York Knicks held off the Denver Nuggets, 119-112, inhigh-scoring shootout.

Zach Randolph collected 22 points and 17 rebounds and JamalCrawford added 23 and eight assists for the Knicks, whooutscored the Nuggets by 17 points in the final quarter tosecure the victory.

"I like the tenacity that we played with," New York coach IsiahThomas said. "I liked the intensity that we played with. Theydefinitely came into to beat us, and it was a good basketballgame."

Denver's fourth game of the season and New York's third markedthe first time the teams met since December 16, 2006 when aroutine blowout turned into full-scale melee. But in this one,all the action was on the court.

"The passion from last year, teams have moved on," Denver coachGeorge Karl said. "What you saw was a very good basketball gamefor early in the season."

"It was a big game," Randolph said. "We wanted to win and, ofcourse, I know Denver wanted to win also. It was a great gameand both teams played hard and played the right way."

After Crawford's runner gave the Knicks a three-point lead,Curry bulled his way to the basket, overpowering three Nuggets'defenders - powering in a layup while getting fouled - to makeit 115-110 with 55 seconds left.

"That was a gut check," Crawford said. "(It was) two teams whoplayed really hard. They have two superstars and great roleplayers. It was a nail-biter, and I am glad we came out (withthe win)."

Although Curry missed the ensuing free throw, New York would notallow Denver any closer than four points the rest of the way -icing the game when Carmelo Anthony missed two free throws witha chance to make it a one possession game with 12.4 secondsleft.

Curry's nine points down the stretch were not his only keycontribution.

He recorded his only steal of the game with 97 seconds remainingwhen he intercepted Anthony's pass, which ultimately led to hisfinal basket of the night. Before that, he also blocked formerKnick Marcus Camby's layup attempt which would have tied thecontest.

"Very rarely you come in and talk about Eddy's defense and hisrebounding," Thomas said. "That is the growth and maturationthat he has come to, and we all talked about the next step forhim, and I thought, particularly in the last five to six minutesof the game, his offensive rebounding, his defensive reboundingand his shot-blocking were the things that we're in heretalking about."

"I just want to do what I can to help the team win," Curry said."I was able to get out there, grab some boards and play somepretty decent defense and make some plays at the end of the gameto pull away and get a win."

But looming over this exciting contest was last season's fight,

"I think Isiah wants us to win every single game," Curry said."I think he's so much attached into every single game. Isiahbrings that energy into every single game. Whether or not hewas more emotionally attached tonight, I wouldn't know, you haveto ask him that."

With 1:15 remaining in that game, the Knicks took exception tothe Nuggets having four starters in the game as Thomas warnedAnthony that the his team should not drive to the basket.

"It's only our fourth game, but it drained a lot of us,especially emotionally, how hard we fought to have the leadthrough the whole game and then to just give it away," saidAnthony, who shot 2-of-9 in the second half. "We look at one ofthese games as a game we gave away tonight. We had it in ourhands and we couldn't maintain the lead that we had."

Iverson scored 32 points and Anthony added 24 and nine assistsfor Denver, which also led by as many as 15 in the first half.
