The thread title is pretty self-explanatory, who do you feel is the most underrated player at each position, and why? Here are my picks:
C: Nick Collison (SEA) Collison will never "wow" you or blow you away, but he's one of the most solid players in the entire league. The thing I like most about him is that he's an excellent rebounder, but doesn't get rebounds based on physical gifts. He boxes out, gets terrific position, muscles, and outworks his opponent. Defensively, he could improve a bit, but again, he gets excellent position on his man. He's one of those blue-collar players that any coach would love to have, and I think he goes unnoticed because he's on a bad team. He's probably the closest thing resembling stability in Seattle right now.
PF: David West (NO) David West has really come on strong in New Orleans. One could argue that he benefits a bit from a stud playmaker running the show in Chris Paul, but the guy has a lot of talent. He's tough, he's physical, he's athletic, he's a good rebounder, he has a soft touch, and he can really knock down that mid-range jumper. He's a boarderline All-Star caliber ballplayer, in my opinion, and is only going to improve. I doubt he ever makes an All-Star appearance out West, but he should certainly be on the ballot year after year.
SF: Shane Battier (HOU) Your casual NBA fan will say "Shane Battier is OK, but nothing special." Well, he's better than OK. He's one of the best and most versatile defenders in the game, and someone who I feel was snubbed from the Defensive Player of the Year award last season. He can defend swingmen as well as most 4's, and he is also one of the best spot-up shooters in the league to go along with it. What you see next to Battier's name on the box score doesn't tell you anywhere near how valuable he is to a team.
SG: Nothing really jumps out at me here, honestly.
PG: Kyle Lowry (MEM) A lot of people underrate him and sleep on him for the simple fact that they haven't seen him play (or not enough, anyway). He unforunately missed most of his rookie season due to injury, but watch out for him this year. If you're wondering "why the hell hasn't Mike Conley Jr. gotten any minutes?" - Lowry is why. He does everything on the court, and is very similar to Rajon Rondo in some ways. He's a superb rebounder for his size, brings a ton of energy every second he's on the floor, has incredibly quick hands, and he is a great athlete. He's also an excellent finisher around the basket for a small guard. Watch out for Kyle Lowry, folks.
What do you guys think of my picks, and what would you change?

at SG, I'd have to say Anthony Parker is pretty underrated. Then again, he's starting to get noticed.
Agreed with Collison, West, and Battier tho.
At PG, I'd put Duhon or Hinrich up there.

QUOTE (mynetsforlife)

Since when is Gordon underrated?

He was the leader of the Bulls for the past three years. He was the main reason for the Bulls resurgence..yet people credit that to Hinrich, even though Hinrich's team won something like 23 wins in his first year....he really turned the franchise around. Gordon's clutch greatness was the reason for the Bulls turnaround. He is easily the Bulls best player, but he is constantly pushed down to the Bulls third best player by most, behind Hinrich and Deng...and sometimes even pushed below Wallace (double yuck!). People are always knocking him for his height....and make up stuff, like saying he is a bad defender because he is short. He is a pretty good defender. He always guards the point guards, and routinely shuts them down, but he gets called a poor defender because the opposing shooting guard goes out and torches Hinrich. Gordon's not responsible for what Hinrich's man does. The Nets are the only team that really abused Gordon big time, having Kidd post up. In the first match up this year, Gordon played great defense on Kidd, not allowing Kidd to back him down at all or penetrate...but Kidd still looked good in the box score because Hinrich/Deng couldn't guard Carter, Wright, and Jefferson giving Kidd a multitude of automatic assits. Gordon is better at creating for the Bulls than anyone else on the roster...yet it doesn't show up in the box score (especially this season) because his teammates can't hit a damn shot. Gordon is a great rebounder for a shooting guard. He is starting to become very Jason Kidd like in that department. Kidd is still better, but Gordon is becoming one of the better controllers of long rebounds in the league.
He is definitely underrated. People always overrate Wallace, Deng, and Hinrich, underating Gordon...and discounting his accomplishments.

i wouldnt say this player is good, but he is hardly recognized for what he does-J.Collins.

And for SG, I would say maybe A.Parker.

Lowery is pretty underrated, but hes still young, he started last year off nicely before going down. I'd say Joe Johnson and Rip Hamilton are pretty underrated. (especailly Rip)

"He is starting to become very Jason Kidd like in that department."
Gordon has 3.2/game last year.
Kidd had 8.2
