Midseason Awards

QUOTE

• Play -- It only amounted to a two-yard gain, but against New England in Week 6, Cowboys running back Marion Barber broke about six attempted tackles and fought his way out of his own end zone and all the way to the other side of the field, running about 25 yards in total. It was a staggering individual effort, and if you saw it, you remember it. Absolutely no one in the NFL runs with more ferocity than Marion Barber.

Marion the Barbarian, baby

I like Barber and have him on one of my fantasy football teams, but to say "absolutely no one runs with more ferocity than Marion Barber?" I don't know about that. Ronnie Brown is a runner that will knock defenders down and he had more yards running and a LOT more yards receiving than Barber did at the time of Brown's season ending injury. LaDainian Tomlinson is a smaller back, but he has a wicked Walter Paytonish stiff arm that he sticks on defenders. However, right now, the last back I would want to try and tackle is Adrian Peterson. I just watched the highlights vs the Chargers and couldn't begin to count the number of arm tackles that he sluffed off like theywere nothing. It seemed like every run ended with multiple Chargers having to bring him down and the pile moving forward. So, I'm not saying that Marion Barber isn't a punishing runner, but I think "absolutely no one" is a bit of an exaggeration.

If you're talking about strictly hard-hitting running backs, wouldn't Brandon Jacobs qualify? His size and the way he ploughs through potential tackles is what he's been known for the past few seasons.

lol who would have thought that our back would be the hardest hitting?
I think there are different definitions of ferocity. Yeah LT's stiffarm is beastly, and Adrian has an uncanny combination of power and elusiveness. When it comes to gaining yards after the second hit, I think Marion is at the top.
Don't know that much about Ronnie Brown :-(

Here's some Ronnie Brown for you.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=bfdhsfv1Km0
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ifs72pD3Qfg
