Nov 7 - A tragic year of bad judgment, brawls and suspensions will come to a close soon for J.R. Smith, and hopefully there will never be another like it.

It began Jan. 1 in the midst of one suspension, and continued through this week with the end of another. In between there was an embarrassing benching by his coach in late April, a tragic automobile accident on a semi-rural road in Monmouth County that killed his close friend Andre Bell in June, and an alleged drunken altercation in a nightclub last month.

"This has been the worst year of my life," Smith said while sitting in Spike Lee's usual courtside seat at Madison Square Garden after Denver's morning shoot-around in preparation for last night's game against the Knicks. "I'm ready for '07 to get over with. But I've been on this earth 22 years. To have only one bad year, that's pretty good." -- Newark Star-Ledger
