ESPN Insider is taking a look at guys who still have not signed with teams, and Webber is among their top 10. I didn't read the article because I don't have Insider. But given that Boone and Magloire are not looking productive and that Allen's playing time is currently small and inconsistent, Webber seems like an avenue worth pursuing if he is willing to come in for a vet minimum. He can still pass as well as any big in the game and is a decent rebounder. No he doesn't defend, but, right now, Collins is the only big getting time who does (unless you count Magloire's clobbering as "deterrent" defense). We don't have a big who makes confident, on-target interior passes from the high post, and there are a number of sets this year that have a big in a position where he is ostensibly expected to do just that.

This is where Webber could be highly valuable. He was tremendous for the Kings as an elbow passer, and, for 12 minutes a game or so, could certainly help the Nets in that area. Any takers?

We unload Magloire or one of the higher salary guys, then I wouldn't mind, otherwise he's not going to play much being he missed camp. True he knows the system somewhat, but it's all about timing and without camp, it's going to be difficult for him to mesh. I like him as a rebounder and the consistent elbow jumper he is, would fit nicely, but it's the money.

I'd rather give Magloire and Allen time to get used this team, than to go out and sign an overrated, waaaay past his prime old big.

Bingo. Last I heard, there weren't many teams on the list of ones he wanted to sign with. I'm sure if the money was right, he'd go elsewhere...but not for the minimum.

Can't believe he's still out there. Thought he was going back to Detriot?

Let it be. No need to get crazy and sign a guy like Webber. Not only is he a shell of his former self, but we have enough big men as it is. There is no point in adding another one, at least at this at this stage of the game.
