Gilberto wants new Arsenal deal

QUOTE

LONDON (AFP) - Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva wants to finish his career with the Premier League leaders despite spending most of this season on the sidelines. Gilberto, 31, was reported to have fallen out with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger after losing his place to Mathieu Flamini and has been linked with moves to Juventus and Valencia. But the Brazilian, who was handed a rare start in Wednesday's goalless draw against Slavia Prague, plans to show Wenger he deserves his place back. Gilberto, a World Cup winner in 2002, would love to earn an extension to his current contract with the London club, which has 18 months to run. "It is not just down to me, but it would be great if I extended my contract with the club and finish my career here," Gilberto said. "We will see if the club has the same feeling. "I am not thinking about leaving the club now. I prefer to think that I have the condition to get back in the team. I will do my job, do my best to achieve that. This is what I have in mind." Gilberto rubbished suggestions that his relationship with Wenger had been affected when the French coach chose William Gallas as Arsenal captain in pre-season and then asked the Brazil skipper to play out of position in central defence. "This is not true. If I have said something to Arsene, it would never come out in the papers," Gilberto said. "I would go to him and speak to him face-to-face; we have great respect for each other.

I wish we could keep him till he retires, afterall, he's been a very underated key player for us for many years now, he's the perfect example of a player who is humble and doesnt create problems for the team, the least we can do is keep him as a gunner 4 life!
