Unlike their earlier meeting in Minnesota, the Packers defense is sure to get a heavy dose of Vikings rookie running back Adrian Peterson. Last time he touched the ball just 12 times, but still wound up with 112 yards. With the Vikings likely having to rely on third-string quarterback Brooks Bollinger, it could be a case of all Peterson all the time. That’s been the case in the past, yet, teams have been unable to slow him down as Peterson has three 100-yard games and two 200-yard games and is averaging 6.6 yards every time he touches the ball. So it would seem the Packers’ best chance of slowing him down would be to use the depth at defensive line to their advantage, and keep rotating guys in and out.

Bollinger is the Vikings’ third-string quarterback for a reason. But he has been a starter in this league and won’t be wide-eyed come Sunday. While the Packers’ main concentration will be on Peterson, his presence alone will open up play-action possibilities for Bollinger. In two relief appearances in the Vikings’ past two games, Bollinger has been effective enough, completing 14-of-20 for 189 yards, one TD, no picks and a QB rating of 116.2. And blitzing Bollinger is not necessarily the answer, for as Badgers fans well remember, the former Wisconsin quarterback knows how to pull it down and run up field.

    Keep on chucking

Packers quarterback Brett Favre has been spot on for most of the season, his receivers continue to get better with each passing week, and the story remains the same for the Vikings: great rushing defense (No. 2 in the NFL), lousy pass defense (No. 31). They clearly need to make an effort to run Ryan Grant and hopefully have a degree of success, which will make the passing game’s chances for success that much better.

    Push the right buttons

The Packers have been hit with a lot of accolades this season, never more so than the past week when they won back-to-back roadies at Denver and Kansas City. It’s a great accomplishment and naturally leads to a great feeling of satisfaction. But that’s where coach Mike McCarthy comes in, especially with a young team. He has to guard against feelings of satisfaction and continually remind his players that if they don’t improve each week, then they’re going backward. Easier said than done.
