Sean and Collins should be joined at the hip and come in and out of the game together. I really think that they will complement each other very, very well.

QUOTE (Dumpy)

I completely agree. I think Collins + S. Williams would work very well together for reasons that I've said before, while I've long had my doubts about Collins + Krstic. Once healthy, Krstic would obviously play more than either Collins or Williams, but I'd continue to play him off the bench.

What the hell? While Sean may be playing good basketball right now, I'm not so sure he should start right away.
Really now, think about it. Sean's only gotten garbage minutes, when the team was either down alot, or for less than a minute for his shot-blocking abilities. We don't really know what he would do with alot of meaningful minutes.
I say don't start him, but give him more minutes. Hell, give him 30 minutes in one game just to see what he'd do. Have him be the first big off the bench. If he's successful, keep doing it.
If he's successful for a string of games, and it looks like he could handle it, THEN think about starting him.
I'd say give him a couple months. He's still a rookie, and he still needs to get completely integrated with this team, just like Magloire and Armstrong.

You don't want to start the rookie, that's just putting undue pressure on the guy. Maybe after a month of quality time off the bench. It really doesn't matter much really, only how much minutes he gets. Collins has started past two games but has only averaged 14 mpg. I'd like to see Sean come in after Magloire next game- if he does well, give him hefty second half minutes. If not, take your lumps, you know what he can do. It's not even in question that he's helped this team more than Boone.

Sean Williams should start...in the developmental league. The only place where I could trust a kid this raw with the responsibility of starting and and being a leader is where he could dominate and learn at the same time. Otherwise, I'd rather take the load off his shoulders and play him from the bench to learn fromthe veterans.

I think he should be the first big off the bench and bring the energy. I know this is a ridiculously extreme comparison but the way he blocks shots is like Bill Russell. Sean has more hops but Russell would like the offensive player think that he had position and then just send his ass to the stands. Thats exactly what Sean does except he has to get used to doing it better in the NBA because it was too easy for him in college.

When he had to block a shot, he often tried to block it so it would go in the direction of a teammate. Still he sent many into the rafters when that wasn't an option. Nor would he try to block every shot; so like you say, the opposition never knew when it was coming.

All I know is that I believe that Sean would be effective playing alongside Collins. Unless you advocate removing Collins from a starting role, that would dictate that Sean play either at the start of the first quarter, the start of the third quarter, or (sometimes) some parts of the fourth quarter. It seems like the fourth quarter is often used for the Kidd-Carter-Wright-Jefferson-Collins unit, so that would seem to be out.

Do you really think Sean could handle it?
Obviously, thinking about his past, he's probably the type of person who is not very mentally strong. John Lucas even said that he needed people basically babysitting him. Add that to the fact that he's a rookie, and I'm not so sure about throwing him into the starter's role. That's big responsibility.
Give him more minutes, let him get comfortable with his teammates off the bench in a bigger role than garbage minutes. Then, if he handles that well, start him.

QUOTE (Jizzy)

Krstic is not ready, bring him off the bench to play against backup scrubs. Sean is our best big and his weakside shotblocking will compliment Collins post defense. To bad Sean won't play next game

how about playing sean with krstic/boki or big cat so he doesn't need to an important part of the offense. Playing him with collins will be kinda counter productive because its rare that teams have two bigs who NEED to be stopped.
