Crisis what crisis says defiant Rijkaard

QUOTE

MADRID (AFP) - Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard refused to accept on Monday that his starstudded side were in crisis as claimed by the Catalonian press following Barca's latest reverse, a 2-0 away defeat at Getafe.

The former Dutch great admitted, however, that certain players were not playing at the same level in away matches - Barcelona have taken just six points - as they did when they were performing in home matches.

"I don't know if we are in a crisis," said the 45-year-old. "But it is evident that we haven't taken many points away from home and we should be doing better.

"It is not a question of the quality of play but more of the mentality of the players.

"In certain matches away from home some players are just not playing at their normal level," added Rijkaard, who was a member of the Dutch side that won Euro '88.

Rijkaard, who along with compatriots Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten formed the backbone of the great AC Milan side which won the European Cup in 1989 and 1990 as well as two Serie A titles, refused to contemplate tinkering with the open football that he and the players like to play.

"It is only necessary to change minor things as our style of play pleases the fans and also suits us. We have to improve the work of the team, we must all sing from the same hymn sheet.

"We have drawn several conclusions from the Getafe defeat, but that is not to say that they are the right ones. It is not the first time that we have addressed the issue."

Barcelona are third in the title race, four points behind bitter rivals Real Madrid after 12 matches.

I can't see Rijkaard being fired even if Barca keeps losing.

I really hope that Ronaldinho is sold. (and moves to EPL)
