Website Takes Over Football Club

QUOTE

Ebbsfleet United have agreed a deal to be taken over by fans' community website MyFootballClub in a unique deal that will see the club run like no other before it.The Blue Square Premier (formerly the Conference) outfit will have 20,000 paid-up website users picking the team and deciding who to buy in the transfer market. Over 50,000 people signed up to the online scheme, but so far only the 20,000 members who paid the £35 (€50) will have a say in the club's affair. MyFootballClub will pay £700,000 (€993,000) to buy a 51 per cent controlling stake and Ebbsfleet's chairman, Jason Botley is delighted. "We are united in believing this is a great opportunity," he told the BBC. "This extra finance and support will enable our club to progress." Manager Liam Daish is also a fan of the scheme, even though his new title will be head coach as a weekly poll on the internet will see the 20,000 members pick the team. "Picking 11 players and formations isn't a precise science and luck often plays its part," he explained. "During and after matches, Ebbsfleet supporters often give me their opinion on which players should or shouldn't start games. Now they can have their say. "My job won't change that much. As a club, we'll select the starting 11 players and formation together. "But just as before, what goes on at the training ground and in the dressing room on the day of the match is down to me. "It's the supporters' money that finances this club and pays my wages and those of the players. "So there's a good argument for them having a say in what players they want to see." Formerly called Gravesend & Northfleet, Ebbslfeet are currently ninth in the Blue Square Premier and lie just six points off the play-offs, a route into the Football League. MyFootballClub creator Will Brooks added: "We hope that MyFootballClub members and Ebbsfleet supporters will join forces and make the football club more sustainable and successful."

We should do that and take over a club as well. haha

yea that would be amazing if i become a millionare i will but a footie club and let allthe people herehave a say

I love how they did it though, all the members gave about 35 pounds each and together now they have a say in the club.
It could be done if we had lot of members. (500,000+)

yeaa club owned by S2 that wouldn't be a bad idea,in fact it's great

I think it is an interesting venture. It will be incredibly difficult to stop other teams from finding out formation options and team options etc, since it only costs £35 to get all that information for each game. I will be following the situation closesly, and may get a share just for kicks to be a part of something special, lol.

These 20k fans who have paid to have their say, i've got a fantastic idea for them.
Why don't they get of their arses and go and support their club from the stands? Instead of voting on the internet go along and vote with their voices. With a big crowd behind them, especially in that league with the money coming in from say for example just a 10k crowd they should be able to walk away with the title. Its no wonder we have an obeseity problem in this country.

not nescesrily but it helps Money helps more than voice e.g many italian teams never have crowds recently but they still did well
