QUOTE

OAKLAND -- Matt Barnes couldn't resist a chance to needle Andris Biedrins on his way out of Tuesday's shoot-around.

"I told them you had fumble fingers," Barnes said as Biedrins answered questions from reporters.

Barnes in fact said no such thing, but as with many jokes, there was a grain of truth: Biedrins has not been the dominant force he was last season within five feet of the basket.

Over the Warriors' first three games, Biedrins' stats were roughly in the neighborhood of last season -- 10.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game on 54.2 percent shooting from the floor.

The one big difference is an important one, however; the usually sure-handed center had committed 11 turnovers for a 3.67 per-game average. Last season, that mark was 1.45.

"He's got great hands for a big man, and he's missed to many balls and missed too many shots around the rim," Warriors coach Don Nelson said. "I thought he came into training camp tired, banged up a little bit from a whole summer of work (with the Latvian national team). He's still young enough to play a whole summer, but most guys, you better get at least a month or two off to rest your body."

Biedrins has had brief periods of butterfingers before. Last November, for example, he racked up 20 turnovers in one five-game stretch. And Tuesday night, the problems were evident from the jump. In the first quarter, Baron Davis twice tried to find Biedrins with passes on the pick-and-roll only to have the ball stolen instead. "Teams are playing a little bit better now," Biedrins said. "They kind of worked on that pick-and-roll game we always do. They defend that thing better than they did last year, so it's more difficult passes and catches."

Well, he looked pretty good last night. He showed how when you get him the ball, he delivers. But hey, has anyone noticed his freethrow % this year? 75 freakin' percent!! That is best on the team! OK, it's the Warriors, so that's not saying much but still...wow, if he can shoot over 70% from the FT line his game will be so much stronger.

Biedrins had a great night, but you spoke too soon about the free throws! Hehe. Now that Sjax is back, Biedrins' scoring should go up. Having Sjax onboard is like having another point guard on the floor, which is what we need to save this team from Baron's pathetic jump shot. Biedrins' hands seem to have gotten better when he stopped getting soft. Maybe it was just fatigue and other guys giving him passes that few 7 footers could catch or they were throwing passes too hard at him.
