Loew to discuss Arsenal situation with Lehmann

QUOTE

HANOVER, Germany (AFP) - Germany's head coach Joachim Loew says he will sit down with first-choice goalkeeper Jens Lehmann to discuss recent comments the shot-stopper may quit Arsenal to play in the Bundesliga. Lehmann, 38, who is out of favour at Arsenal, said on Monday he is prepared to quit the Premier League leaders to preserve his place in the national team ahead of Euro 2008. A string of errors for the Premier League side at the start of the season, before achilles tendon and elbow injuries, saw Lehmann lose his place to Spaniard Manuel Almunia. "The Bundesliga is always attractive and is an option, and maybe the German second division is too," the 38-year-old told Kicker magazine, who has missed the last 16 games at Arsenal. "In any case, I want to play at Euro 2008. Playing there has always been my aim." Loew said he now wants a serious chat with goalkeeper Lehmann who trained with the national squad on Tuesday ahead of Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Cyprus. "I do not know yet how things are with him," Loew told German sports agency SID. "We always said we would sit down and discuss the situation during the winter break. "He knows it will be difficult to play in the European Championships if he hasn't played for his club for the eight months before that." Meanwhile, Loew insists places are still up for grabs as his side prepare for their penultimate Euro 2008 qualifier. The Germans have already qualified for next summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland, but Loew wants wins over Cyprus in Hanover and Wales in Frankfurt next Wednesday to finish on a high. The head coach is also keen to see how experienced trio of Mike Hanke, Tim Borowski and veteran Oliver Neuville cope after long spells off with injury. "We look forward to the two home games and want to celebrate the last two games of this campaign with a win," said Loew. "All the players have the possibility of proving themselves. "Player who had long-term injuries like Hanke, Borowski and Neuville have the chance to prove themselves and fight for places at next year's championships." Experienced pair Neuville and Borowski were the only players to sit out training on Tuesday. Striker Neuville, 34, who has 65 caps and was a member of the German side that reached the 2002 World Cup final, was still recovering from playing for second division Borussia Monchengladbach in Munich on Monday night while Werder Bremen midfielder Borowski, 29 caps, was missing with 'flu. Loew's side booked their place at next June's European Championships in Austria and Switzerland with a 0-0 draw against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin last month. But the Germans were knocked from top spot in Group D when they were humbled 3-0 by the Czech Republic in Munich and are desperate to finish with two wins to regain top spot.

He's a total nutcase, he can take his attitude somewhere else, we seriously dont want him anymore, all I care is that we get some decent money for him and move on.!

He apparently would agree to play in second league bundesliga just to be able to play for the national team.

Yea, I don't see Germany keeping him anymore, they need to give the young guys a chance and develop them.
