We could have had this lineup:
Hinrich, Gordon, Duhon, Ronnie Brewer (instead of Thabo)
Deng, Nocioni
Chandler, Curry, Joe Smith
And MikeDC says we'd have had the cap room to sign Gooden or Harrington to fill out the PF spot. I assume it'd have been Curry and Chandler starting.

Likewise, even if we'd traded Curry... I think last summer is where we really screwed the pooch. People can discuss any theory they want to about why decisions got made, but the bottom line is Aldridge is better than Tyrus, Brewer is better than Thabo and Chandler is better than Wallace
Trade Aldridge, Brewer, and Chandler for Tyrus, Thabo and Wallace and... we're a lot better.

I'm still trying to figure out why he was traded.
Although, I love seeing Tyson with Paul. That Hornets team is pretty damn good. Especially with Tyson as the defensive centerpiece.

Can you imagine the Raps with Iggy and Danny Granger? If the Bobcats took anyone besides AMMO and Sean May they'd be better off. The Bucks would probably be better with TJ Ford rather than Charlie V.
There's always going to be draft busts and losers in trades and the Bulls seem to have had more than their share of bad choices lately but we'll see what happens going forward.

I kind of like the Raptors in the long-run, but they're definitely no favorites or anything.
Which gets to my point about your post. One way to look at it is to say "that's the breaks, almost everyone screws up sometimes". Indeed, but most teams don't win titles either. The margin of error for winning is very small, and the margin of error for winning consistently is even smaller.
Perhaps it's a harsh criticism, but I think it's fair to say that a team really can't afford missed opportunities if it's truly going to be an excellent team

Chandler on the Bulls never would have become the player Chandler on the Hornets became. If he had remained a Bull, he wouldn't be better than Ben Wallace. Sometimes players just need a different voice and a different approach to reach their potential.

If true (and when healthy, he wasn't exactly a slouch here, so I'm not conceding it) I don't see much reason to believe that it would be due to Chandler and not due to the views of the guys running the show here.

QUOTE (CelticKing)

You guys could have had Kobe.

It's not really clear to me that we could. I haven't heard any really detailed, sensible description of what went on and what didn't in the Kobe negotiations.

The Bulls just had the bum luck on giving up on him at the exact time he broke out.

I have a hard time thinking that Skiles would have adapted at all to get Chandler back to a healthy, productive mental state.

Its a shame. The Bulls would have had a productive 7 footer for years to come. An anchor in the middle.

I have to focus in on the Tyrus pick as the biggest mistake. The Tyson trade was a mistake, but it was justified to a certain extent at the time. And besides, Tyson didn't provide low post scoring and that's always been the biggest problem with this team. I don't see how Paxson justifies wasting a gift from the Eddy Curry trade, by not addressing his team's most glaring need. Sure Tyrus Thomas could've been the better overall player, but he didn't really fit a need in the way that Aldridge did. I thought that pick was so obvious and still don't understand what he was thinking at the time.
