Juventus And Barça In Tiago-Marquez Trade?

QUOTE

Sources in the European media speculate that Tiago Mendes of Juventus and Barcelona's Rafael Marquez could pass each other as their respective clubs plot a swap move...

Tiago Mendes (pictured) may be leaving Juventus in January, with Barcelona said to be interested in securing his services.

The Portuguese midfielder is said to be unhappy at the club he joined mere months ago and, according to his father, would welcome a move to the Catalan giants.

Now, sources claim that Barcelona may look to offload versatile defensive player Rafael Marquez in their end of the deal.

Marquez, who can play centre-back or defensive midfield, has missed much of the current campaign due to injury concerns, as well as questionable form.

With the likes of Gabi Milito and Carles Puyol appearing to be first choice at centre-back, and Yaya Toure seeming set to sew up the central midfield, Marquez may agree to a switch to Serie A.

However, whether Juve are prepared to match his wages is another matter entirely.

Marquez arrived at Barcelona back in 2003 from Monaco, while Tiago's summer switch to Turin also originated at a French club, namely Lyon.
