I might have to goto school4 days a week next semester (for the past 3 I have done 4 classes in just 2 days a week), and I am trying to decide whether or not I should livein a dorm at UH. I have to make a 25-30 minute drive, illegally through the HOV lane (at least 2 people have to be in the car), in order to get to school. And I feel like I am pushing it since I drove right by a cop the other week who was already writing someone else a $500 ticketh which must be payed in full. Dorms are about $360 a month for double, and $440 for single.

I heard it is bad if you need privacy, which Iwill since Ineed to study for1 extra class in order to exempt out of it. But it would be nice to live next to my friends, and my classes.

Anyone who has experienced dorm life, or is currently living in a dorm, please share your experiences.

It depends on what type of campus it is. I dorm at St. John's and it's kind of dull. This is mainly because St. John's is primarily a commuter school and most of the students that attend here are in proximity to their homes, so they go home on the weekends. It's especially dead now since this is Thanksgiving break. I had to come back early to work though. You should ask people who dorm there how they like it since dorm life varies fom school to school. But in general, I think it's good to dorm though, so you can get a "new experience". You have so much more freedom and there tends to be crazy stuff that goes on - a bunch of teenagers experiencing their first taste of freedom - ya dig? If you get good reviews from those who are currently dorming, then I would recommend dorming if you are willing to spend the extra money.

I'd say my school is probably comparable to Loyola, and it's a fun experience, I'd recommend it.

I love dorm life, but I'm at a school with an amazing nightlife (Tulane... #1 in the nation for nightlife ).

Then again, I've already bought a house for off-campus living next year with a few friends, because that just seems like more fun.

My roommate's not a problem because he's always in bed and up early (he's got football practice mad early every morning), so we rarely even cross paths.

The only bad part is living under the authority of an RA. You can get a cool RA, but mine are total dicks. It's still more freedom than most people experienced from their parents I'd guess though; I justcame from an extremely liberal household.

Besides, if you're going to a non-commuter school, it's just a part of the college experience. I wouldn't feel like I was in school if I didn't live on campus.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend it. Completely changes your university experience.

I went to purdue and lived in the dorms 3 years. After moving to an apt, i realized the dorms were better because someone was always around to do stuff with. Sure you didn't get as much privacy and you didn't have the same "freedoms" you did in an apt. but the dorms ended up being pretty damn fun looking back on it.
